PIRE: Partnership for International Research and Education
Developing Low-Carbon Cities in the US, China, and India
Through Integration Across Engineering,
Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, and Public Health

We are an interdisciplinary research and education partnership between universities and practitioners in the U.S., India and China, focused on developing of low-carbon, sustainable cities and infrastructures.

Our research concentrates on reducing greenhouse gas emissions while addressing broader sustainability goals such as economic development, water scarcity, environmental pollution, and public health. Our education program aims to prepare graduate students for interdisciplinary, international careers through development of Summer Schools in India and China, and a Masters Program on Sustainable Infrastructure and Cities.

We partner with international research institutes and NGOs to disseminate outcomes to scientific and city communities in the US and abroad. The PIRE is supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) grant 1243535.
