C. Platt, "Make: Electronics": Assumes the reader is starting with limited knowledge. Practical. Well written.

P. Scherz, "Practical Electronics for Inventors 4/E": Covers a wide range of practical knowledge of components and circuit design. For those at the University of Minnesota, this book is available in electronic form at the UMN Library

T. Igoe, "Making Things Talk 3/E": Connecting sensors and actuators to the Arduino in the context of fun projects. Assumes very little knowledge of electronics.

P. Horowitz and W. Hill, "The Art of Electronics 3/E": Older (1989) but an absolute and classic gem. Comprehensive and full of practical circuit suggestions.
