Our managing partners are responsible for the overall management of the consulting practice which includes consultant recruitment, nonprofit relationship management, project identification, full-scale project team support and project execution oversight. Below are brief bios on the six managing partners for the 2013-14 practice.
Matt L. Crowley is a 2014 MBA Candidate at the Carlson School of Management. He received his B.A. in English from Indiana University, Bloomington. Prior to business school, Matt worked as a fixed income analyst for Vanguard in the Philadelphia area and was involved with the United Way and Global Citizen, an organization committed to connecting capable volunteers with organizations in need of volunteer resources. Matt spent his summer working as internal consultant for Thrivent Financial in Minneapolis and is looking forward to a career in consulting and general management.
Jennifer Hong is a 2014 MBA Candidate at the Carlson School of Management. She received her medical degree from University of Colorado School of Medicine and undergraduate degrees in chemistry and philosophy from the University of Minnesota. Prior to medical school, Jennifer spent two years with AmeriCorps as a homeless case manager in Denver and VISTA*Leader in New York City. This past summer, Jennifer traveled to Beijing to work with Best Buy on strategic marketing and sales. She also completed a marketing internship with Boston Scientific in its Peripheral Interventions division. Post-MBA, Jennifer plans on pursuing opportunities to improve the financial sustainability of nonprofits and access for women and under-served individuals.
Matt Midthun is a 2014 MBA Candidate at the Carlson School of Management and holds a B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Stout. Prior to graduate school, Matt spent four years with a global industrial manufacturer as a manufacturing engineer. In this role, Matt developed, implemented, and supported production lines in several different countries while bring eight new products to market. Matt spent this past summer at The Toro Company in its strategic sourcing group, where he focused on service part and vendor strategy. Post-MBA, Matt plans to continue to work hard and love what he does.
Dean Mixer is a 2014 MBA Candidate at the Carlson School of Management. He received his B.A. in Communications from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. After graduation, Dean spent two years in television and radio production. His primary role was in marketing, writing on-air marketing materials for a large, national cable network. Prior to pursuing his MBA, he also worked as a claims examiner for both BlueCross BlueShield of Minnesota and UCare. During his first year at Carlson, Dean enjoyed leading a business technology project for Goodwill/Easter Seals of Minnesota. Dean spent the summer at DISH Network in its Customer Retention department.
Sarah Powell is a 2014 MBA Candidate at the Carlson School of Management and holds a B.A. in Political Science from Emory University. Prior to pursuing her MBA, Sarah spent three years with a humanitarian nonprofit as part of their program development and emergency response team in locations that ranged from Haiti to Darfur to the Democratic Republic of Congo. She is studying innovation and strategic management at Carlson. Sarah spent the summer of 2013 in Kenya working for TechnoServe, an international nonprofit that helps entrepreneurs in the developing world build their businesses.

Jessica Vang is a full-time MA-HRIR candidate at the Carlson School of
Management. She received a B.A. in Psychology at the University of North
Texas and has over six years of experience working with a variety of
nonprofit organizations. In her most
recent position as Education Director for the McKinney Boys and Girls
Club of Collin County, she was able to reform and coordinate several key
programs for over 120 children. In June 2010, she was recognized as an
Innovative Educator by Visa, Inc. for reforming the club’s financial
literacy program. During the 2013 GVC term, she led her team of
consultants in designing a research-based reward and recognition system
for the Twin Cities based nonprofit Feed My Starving Children. This
summer, she worked on the Organizational Development team for
Yum! Brands in Louisville, Kentucky. She is passionate about leadership
and social responsibility and looks forward to working with new
consultants and clients for the 2014 term.
