Grants, Fellowships & Research Services

The CLA Office of Research and Graduate Programs offers a robust slate of services and events to help faculty and graduate students develop fundable projects and activities and craft and submit competitive funding proposals. To learn more about the funding landscape, please reach out to any member of our Research Development Team. For upcoming submissions, please contact the Team several weeks before the deadline as staff may not be available to assist with applications due to the sponsor in less than 8 business days.

Available Services

Research Development Consultation

  • Assess short- and long-term funding needs and identify funding opportunities

  • Help identify local resources and connections to advance individual research agenda and fund-seeking strategy

  • Familiarize newly-hired faculty with key institutional resources and policies

  • Get to know your Research Development Team

Proposal Development

  • Review sponsor guidelines and create a detailed proposal-writing work plan

  • Help shape project plans to align with sponsor expectations

  • Identify and connect to other expert resources (i.e. evaluation, data management, community engagement, etc.)

  • Provide feedback and substantive editing of proposal narratives

  • Help draft or secure supporting documentation

Budget Development

  • Review sponsor guidelines and project activities to identify a comprehensive list of allowable costs

  • Compile full project budget, ensuring correct institutional and sponsor rates

  • Enter budget data into sponsor templates and electronic submission systems

  • Draft budget justification documents

Complex Proposal Management

  • Coordinate team proposal writing process (maintain shared document files, task assignment, timeline, point of contact, etc.)

  • Work with partner institutions to coordinate a budget process, institutional review, and special collaboration requirements

  • Collect supporting documents from all project participants and handle non-research related communication

Proposal Submission

  • Review SPA and sponsor procedures with PI to ensure on-time, compliant submission

  • Compile required documentation and review for required format and accuracy

  • Upload proposal documents and enter required data into electronic submission systems (e.g. Fast Lane, Workspace, ASSIST)

  • Prepare and route the PRF (proposal routing form) and submit proposals to SPA

  • Monitor SPA communication during the review process to address last minute issues

Research Development Events

  • Open to for Faculty, Graduate Students, and Staff

  • Roundtables offer a faculty-led forum on topics that help advance the conduct of research and creative activities

  • Information Sessions present and explain procedures and systems related to applying for internal or external funding

  • Workshops provide hands-on opportunities for faculty and graduate students to acquire or strengthen skills devoted to specific grant mechanisms or tools
