What we do

We partner with the U of M Foundation, advancement colleagues, and departments and centers to bring CLA’s capital campaign to life. 

We help shape the college’s campaign case statement, creating a compelling narrative around Roadmap and specific departmental priorities; we create public events and communication materials to share progress and news as the campaign unfolds; we ensure campaign gifts are well implemented and fully utilized; and we celebrate milestones along the way. 

What is a capital campaign?

A capital campaign is a focused fundraising effort, over a defined period of time, to raise an aspirational amount of money, for specific needs. Our campaign will help bring to life the College’s Roadmap goals, adding strength to our research, teaching, diversity, and public engagement initiatives. We’re launching our campaign in tandem with the University’s—all of the U of M’s colleges and coordinate campuses will take part. 

What steps are involved?

  • Developing a compelling case for support that reflects the interests of our donors and the needs of our community

  • Marshaling the energy and generosity of campaign volunteers to help bring others along

  • Engaging more intentionally with corporate and community leaders to explore opportunities for collaboration, especially around workforce development, educational equity, and building vibrant communities

  • Improving our communications and digital tools to share our story consistently and persistently with a wider audience

  • Offering community members opportunities to engage with faculty and students around grand challenges topics, showcasing the breadth and depth of the liberal arts

  • Building a high performing development team and adding major gift, alumni relations, and donor relations staff 

Why it matters

Efforts to more deeply engage with our donor community, strengthen ties with industry, and involve more donors and volunteers in our work require constant collaboration with campus partners. We ensure faculty, staff, and students throughout CLA understand both how they’ll benefit from the campaign and how they can participate in it.
