Annual Giving

What we do

We work in partnership with the University of Minnesota Foundation to develop and execute a comprehensive annual fund program for the College, building the network of support at all levels of giving and enhancing the connection with the College for future support. We also work with individual departments and centers on targeted opportunities to raise additional funds and improve alumni participation.


Our communication channels include mail, email, and telephone calls from student callers. Annual Fund solicitation activity is scheduled throughout the year. Past donors will be presented with the names of funds they have supported in the past. New donors will be presented with CLA and/or department-specific funds. Additional tactics include:

  • Targeted messaging around anniversaries, retirements, or other unique and impactful opportunities
  • Coordinated efforts around annual “Give to the Max Day” campaign
  • Unique packaging and additional personal follow-up for donors $500+
  • Partnering with UMF’s Leadership Annual Giving team to cultivate $1,000-$50,000 gifts
  • Crowdfunding
  • Giving links, pledge cards, and other collateral to support initiatives
  • Consultation on giving messaging in newsletters for departments and centers

Why it matters 

Making annual gifts is the way many alumni begin their giving relationship with CLA. Through continued annual giving, many of those relationships grow and strengthen and, as a result, lead to larger gifts.

In addition to donations, these contacts allow us to obtain updated contact and employment information, which helps us stay in touch and create other relationships with alumni by connecting them to students, their fellow alumni, and their major department(s).
