CLA Students Receive Career Readiness Guidebook!

posted Feb 1, 2017, 12:18 PM by Lisa Beecroft   [ updated Feb 6, 2017, 10:09 AM ]

The College of Liberal Arts is committed to the career readiness of our students, and the Office of Undergraduate Education (CLA UGE) has made Dean Coleman’s Readiness initiative a centerpiece of its mission. CLA Career Readiness provides a common language for all CLA faculty and staff to help students articulate the advantage of their liberal arts education.

One important part of the initiative is the Career Readiness Guide: Prepare for success with a liberal arts advantage, a career guidebook that all CLA students will receive this spring. It articulates CLA UGE’s vision of career readiness as the development of ten Core Career Competencies that are not only useful for students’ future careers, but also reflect the very essence of a liberal arts education. In addition, it is full of practical guidance and advice for students on how to identify and apply for internships, jobs, and graduate school and how to leverage their education in an increasingly competitive and dynamic world.

CLA students will receive an email to pick up their free copy of the guidebook in the CLA Advising offices (including Johnston, Heller, Bruininks, PES, and MLK offices), the University Honors Program, and CLA Career Services the week of February 6.

Learn more about the Career Readiness Initiative on the CLA website, and check out resources for faculty and staff on the CLA Neighborhood intranet site.
