New Digital Publishing Initiative Funding Request Now Open

The College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota has launched a Digital Publishing in the Humanities and Humanistic Social Sciences initiative, which provides subventions for open digital monographic publishing. Minnesota is also one of twelve universities participating in the AAU/ARL/AAUP Open Access Monograph Initiative. The purpose of these initiatives is to foster new forms of scholarly publishing and new models of sustainability for university presses. Applications are due on May 15th to clafclty@umn.edu. 18/19 Promotion and Tenure Information Sessions

The Office of Faculty Affairs and the Office of the Dean will be conducting three promotion and tenure information sessions this spring.
  • Candidates; Friday, April 20, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m., 202 Johnston Hall
This meeting is intended specifically for candidates in units that will be bringing forward promotion and tenure cases in 2018/19, and will include a conversation with the associate deans to address issues or concerns of interest to the candidates. If candidates are unable to attend this session, they must arrange to meet with the faculty associate deans by May 11, 2018. Contact John McEwen (mcewe014@umn.edu) in the arts & humanities or Tola Ou-Quinlan (ouxx0002@umn.edu) in the social sciences to make these arrangements.
  • Chairs/Directors and Caseworkers; Monday, April 23, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m., 202 Johnston Hall
This meeting is intended specifically for chairs/directors and caseworkers in units that will be bringing forward promotion and tenure cases in 2018/19, and will include directions from the associate deans about important requirements for all promotion and tenure dossiers. If you are unable to attend this session, you must arrange to meet with the faculty associate deans by May 11, 2018Contact John McEwen (mcewe014@umn.edu) in the arts & humanities or Tola Ou-Quinlan (ouxx0002@umn.edu) in the social sciences to make these arrangements.
  • Unit Administrators and P&T Support Staff; Tuesday, April 24, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., 202 Johnston Hall
This meeting is intended specifically for unit administrators and support staff in units that will be bringing forward promotion and tenure cases in 2018/19, and will include a conversation with CLA administrative staff, introduction to helpful tools, and a rundown of substantive changes to the promotion and tenure process. We strongly encourage you to attend this session. This detail-oriented process changes from year-to-year and the information presented will be vital to alleviate potential administrative burdens later in the process.
