Will Waalkes

Major: Physics, Astronomy & AstrophysicsUniquename: waalkeswResearch Interests: Interested in exoplanet topics and astrochemistry.Research Projects: Currently working with Professor Ted Bergin on characterizing HCN abundances in hot nebular cores. During the summer of 2014, he worked Dr. OJ Tucker in the UM AOSS department on a planetary science project modeling Titan's exosphere using a Direct Simulation Monte Carlo simulation. This was in an attempt to characterize the suprathermal component of Titan's exosphere. This was done as an NSF funded REU.

He acquired a second REU during the summer of 2015 working with Dr. Viviana Guzman and Dr. Karin Oberg at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. This project characterized the spatial relationships between the simple organic molecules formaldehyde and methanol in order to examine the dominant formation pathway of formaldehyde in prestellar and protostellar cores.
