Welcome to the Imperiale Lab at the University of Michigan

We study the molecular biology of the small DNA tumor virus, BK polyomavirus (BKPyV). We are particularly interested in how the virus traffics through the cell, how it interacts with host intrinsic immune functions in the nucleus, how replication is regulated, and how it establishes a persistent infection. Please click on the links for more information about projects, lab members, and recent publications.

We are looking for a talented individual to join our group's efforts to understand BKPyV. Available projects include understanding how viral gene expression is regulated both transcriptionally and post-transcriptionally, how disease-related genomic rearrangements arise, and how the virus persists. Our lab is part of a larger community of virologists and other microbiologists at the University of Michigan that values interactions and diversity.

Interested individuals should contact Mike Imperiale at imperial@umich.edu.
