Welcome to the LRC "Language Teaching Forum" - a new events series starting this semester

The LRC invites faculty, staff and local teachers to come together to discuss and explore current language learning and teaching issues facing the profession. The point of departure for our explorations this semester will be

"Revisiting ‘cultures’, ‘languages’ & ‘literacies’ in times of globalization"

Please join us for the
April Brown Bag
Thursday, April 11th
2 - 3pm  • North Quad, LRC Main Center, VVR
Refreshments and dessert will be served

(1) Laura Grande & Jinyi Li: "The Chinese Character Trainer in First-year Chinese: An App for student practice, self-testing and online grade reporting"

We will describe the challenges our students face learning Chinese characters, demonstrate how the App facilitates the learning process, and describe the App's time-saving advantages from the perspective of instructors. iPads will be available for participants to try the App. Resources for similar Apps and for other languages will be provided.

(2) Kyongmi Park: "Is the two-step self-evaluation effective at improving students' pronunciation?"

Throughout the semester, we invite you to join us as presenters and participants for a variety of events:
  • informal brown bags to have a lively exchange of ideas on subjects of common interest through different formats, such as more general round table get-togethers, presentations on experiences and examples from the classroom or short hands-on-sessions to introduce an instructional tool or approach
  • guest lectures
  • workshops complementing topics and ideas discussed in the brown bags and lectures, offered by guest or local lecturers and the LRC staff
