Paging Dr. Tomorrow: HESP

Welcome to the Health Equity Scholars Program at the University of Michigan Medical School!

The Health Equity Scholars Program (HESP) is a student-driven group focused on learning about and engaging in health equity work in Southeast Michigan.  Through monthly seminars, site visits, and service experiences, HESP seeks to expose its members and other students at the University of Michigan Medical School to the many health disparities which exist in Detroit and in its surrounding areas.

HESP seeks to build upon the medical school curriculum by providing participating students with skills, knowledge and experiences that will allow them to serve disadvantaged communities in their careers and ultimately, to play an active role in ending health disparities.

HESP engages the entire medical school in its mission by opening seminars and site visits to non-HESP students, collaborating and co-sponsoring events with other medical student organizations, and planning a day-long trip to Detroit, which explores health equity in urban, Southeast Michigan.

More information on HESP's history, activities, members, community partners, and application process can be found using the navigation menu on the left.
