Welcome

Background

The Coalition for Interdisciplinary Research of Latina/o Issues (CIRLIaims to promote interdisciplinary discussions and collaboration among graduate students, faculty, researchers, and professionals interested in conducting social science research or enriching their work with Latino/a populations.

CIRLI workshops provide an opportunity to explore ways in which issues affecting Latinos/as have typically been studied across a range of fields in an effort to inform the development of theoretical frameworks and research designs. We aim to further  research interests around Latino/a issues and consider how theoretical frameworks can best be applied to practice.  CIRLI members and guest speakers represent a range of fields, including political science, public health, public policy, education, social work, psychology, anthropology, and sociology.

CIRLI is a University of Michigan Rackham-funded interdisciplinary workshop and has been in existence since 2010.

Activities

CIRLI meets twice a month.  Meetings are an assortment of discussions about common readings, feedback on personal research, and meeting with leading researchers in the field who study Latino/a issues.  CIRLI invites 3 to 4 external guest speakers each academic year.

Other CIRLI activities include working with the Undergraduate Research Opportunity (UROP) program to mentor undergraduate students at the University of Michigan who are interested in Latino/a studies.

Announcements

Stay tuned for the upcoming schedule of CIRLI events, including workshops for members to feature their ongoing work and guest speakers.

Thanks to those who have signed up to mentor students in the Exploring Current Issues in Latino/a Research (ECILR) course.
