Women's Ice Hockey Finishes 2nd in the DVCHC Playoffs

Women's Ice Hockey, Hagerstown Maryland 2/18-20/2011 - Going into playoffs the University of Delaware's Women's Ice Hockey team was seeded number two finishing the season with 20 points just one point behind West Chester University who held the first place seed. Other teams in the playoffs included Cal UPenn in third, University of Virginia in fourth, American University in fifth and University of Maryland in sixth. As the UD and WCU both had a buy on Friday night, CUP faced off against UMD and UVA against AU, where CUP and UVA moved on to the next round. In the second round WCU played CUP where a complete uproar occured as CUP dominated the game beating West Chester and astonishing 5-1. Later that day Delware played UVA a long time rival in the playoffs, but Delaware was able to play their game and come out on top with a score of 3-1. On Sunday Delaware faced off in the finals against Cal UPenn who they had beat twice during the season in close matches with scores of 2-1. The final started off as a very close match with CUP ahead 1-0 at the end of the first period, but UD came right back and scored two goals in the second to tak over the lead going into the third. While UD started out looking good CUP came out really fired up after the mid game ice cut and took their lead back scoring three goals to win the championship 4-2, leaving Delaware to take home the silver. Player of the Game for Delaware went to #11 Brie Scolaro.
