Subjects are recruited from a variety of sources:
UD classifieds
Linguistics and CogSci courses
Clinician referrals
Local schools
Potential subjects should be added to the mailing list for recruitment for particular studies. All subjects run in studies should be entered into the database.
When contact with subjects is by email (such as through classifieds or mailing lists), respond to interested subjects through the gmail account using the following scripts:
[edit]
post a general ad on the UD classifieds. When subjects respond, add them to the mailing list, and if a study is currently active, send them the specific information for that study

If instructors agree, we can recruit subjects from their courses; this is generally worked this out with instructors individually, but generally, they offer either extra credit for participation, or make participating in a study an assignment for the class (after the subject participates, the lab confirms participation to the instructor)

IMPORTANT: when scheduling a child to visit the lab directly from the college school, always check to be sure that a consent form signed by the parent is on file in the lab. No student can participate unless his or her parent has signed a consent form prior to the child visiting the lab.

The best way to schedule adult subjects is generally by email. Send a request to the mailing list, being sure to specify time commitment required, participation criteria, and payment. When interested subjects repond, confirm that they meet the criteria and find out when the subject is available. be sure to include the specific exclusion criteria for the study. When new subjects join the mailing list, forward them any active requests that have recently been sent to the list.

Dear ______, My name is ______ and I am a research assistant at the Experimental Psycholinguistics Laboratory, University of Delaware. Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time for our research! The study we are currently running takes between 1 and 2 hours (usually an hour and a half). During the experiment, we measure the electroencephalogram (EEG) while you listen to sounds, using an electrode net that rests on your head. The procedure is completely safe. put specific exclusion criteria here Please let me know when you can come to the lab for the experiment, and we will send you a list of available time slots for your participation. Getting to the lab: The lab is located on the first floor (room 125) of the McKinly Lab building, here is a map. If you drive to the University, parking is available on a public parking lot with an entrance from either Main Street or Delaware Ave (opposite the lab building). Thank you! When subjects are scheduled, add them to the Experimental Calendar (shown below), and notify the experimenters assigned to cover that time.
Note the date and estimated amount of payment in the Subject Ledger to ensure there will be enough to pay the subject
The assigned experimenters should confirm with the subject by phone and email the day before the session.
