Personal Protective Equipment

  • Personal protective equipment is the last line of safety defense and should be treated as such. Minimum University requirements are defined in University of Delaware Policies and Procedures Manual (http://www.udel.edu/ExecVP/polprod/) Policy 7-40, Personal Protective Equipment. Department requirements, are additive to University requirements, and are determined by the type of activity being performed. If an item of equipment is required to perform an activity safely, it’s use cannot be optional and non-compliance cannot be tolerated. Ensuring consistency of compliance with personal protective equipment standards is one of the most difficult issues facing laboratory coordinators and safety committee chairmen and support of department chairs and other department leadership is essential.
