University of Colombo School of Computing

The University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) has been able to position itself as a centre of excellence in ICT in the university system of Sri Lanka. Competency of the academic staff is one of the crucial factors in UCSC’s focus on high-quality academic excellence. The UCSC presently has 3 professors, 27 PhD qualified academics graduated from leading universities in UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, Sweden etc., to assist in the academic activities.

Asi@Connect provides dedicated high-capacity internet connectivity for research and education communities across Asia-Pacific; operating at speeds of up to 10 Gbps, it currently interconnects universities and research centres in 21 countries/economies across the region. It also connects to the 50 million European researchers and academics served by the GÉANT network and supports collaborative programmes in areas such as Earth observation, disaster warning, climate research, food security, delivery of e-health and e-learning.

Cyber attacks and network related criminal activities are increasing exponentially around the globe and this detracts from the optimal utilization of Asi@Connect Internet capacity and equipment.  Consequently, there is a need to improve the network engineering and information security expertise in university IT departments and National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) within developing countries.

Thus University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) and Asi@Connect offers distance International Master Program in Cybersecurity which covers the knowledge of Network Security and cybercrime investigation with the support of EU funding. It offers postgraduate qualifications for staff members of NRENs and developing country universities in the domain of network security and digital forensics. The program links with existing taught master program in Information Security at UCSC.
Programme Objective
1. Acquire a detailed understanding of cybersecurity challenges in networks.
2. Assess the cybersecurity risks faced by an organization.
3. Design and implement networked, software and distributed systems with cybersecurity in mind.
4. Gain expertise in both theory and practice of cybersecurity.
5. Gain expertise to manage the growing complexities associated with securing data and networks

  • Travel Grant The students must be present at the University of Colombo School of Computing for a period of fourteen days (14) days to attend hands-on training sessions and examinations at the end of each semester. This is a mandatory part of our program since we at UCSC believe that there is a limit to what distance learning can achieve in the area of cybersecurity and hands-on application is necessary to develop an effective network security team in this area. Therefore, economy class air tickets and accommodation will be arranged for the students.
