Native Americans and the Sea

The sea was an integral part of Native American life. They used the sea for a variety of reasons from transportation, to irrigation, to fishing. Without the use of the sea and rivers, the Native Americans would not have been able to survive and would have perished long ago. They knew from their first settlements after crossing the Bering Strait that they would have to live near water if they wanted to prosper, and all Native American tribes, whether in the deserts of Arizona or the forests in upstate New York all settled near a body of water.
