Registering Your Computer
on the UCM Network
In order to use the wired Internet from any computer workstation, UCM must assign the workstation an Internet Protocol (IP) address. UCM uses a registration method to assign IP addresses to computers located in University Housing rooms and apartments. The method requires students to register their workstations (PCs, Macs, and gaming devices) on the network by following the instructions described below.
NOTE: Access to any off-campus web site will be blocked until registration is complete. System updates should be applied immediately after registration.
Connect to the wired port in your residence hall room and open a web browser. You will see a page titled “UCM Network Registration” that contains the UCM Acceptable Use Policy. Read that policy, and click “I Accept”. If you choose to decline, your workstation will not be able to access any UCM network resources, including the Internet.
After clicking “I accept”, you will see a screen that asks for your Network ID and Password. Enter your Network ID and password (the same ID and password you use to log in to Blackboard.) NOTE: If you cannot remember your Network ID and Password, then you may log on to MyCentral, navigate to the “Change Network Password” tab, and submit a new Network Password. Please remember that you may need to wait 15 minutes to an hour for the change to take effect across all UCM systems.
After providing your Network ID and Password on the registration screen, you will see a screen that contains the MAC address of the workstation that you are currently using. To register that machine, click “register”. To register a different device (such as a gaming device – see note below), simply enter the MAC address of the other device in the box and click “register”. You will see a list of devices registered to your Network ID/password at the bottom of this screen.
After completing these steps, you will have successfully registered your workstation on the UCM network and have full access to UCM’s network resources, including the internet.
NOTE: To register a device that is not browser-capable, such as a gaming device, you must know the MAC address of that device. You may register it by the method noted above; simply navigate to NetReg , place the MAC address of the device in the box, then click “register”. This will not delete the registration for the workstation you are using. It will add the registration for the non-browser capable device for which you have provided the MAC address.
