Managing Your Desktop

Before any major changes are made to your machine (such as the retirement of the UCMOLIB domain), it's a good idea to save a backup copy of your individual user profile from the C drive.

  • Locate your profile by going to the Start Button, bottom left corner of your screen.
  • Click "Computer".

  • On the left side of the window, click on the "C" drive.
  • Within the C drive, you should see a folder called "Users".

  • Within the Users folder, you should see a folder named with your Network ID.

  • Perform a copy and paste function to copy this entire folder to a USB drive, or to a network drive.  You'll then be able to retrieve elements such as files stored on your desktop, IE favorites, and shortcuts.

NOTE:  As long as you are a local administrator on your computer, you will be able to access user profiles, no matter the domain.  This means that, if you log into the UCMO domain, and you have administrative rights on your machine, you will still be able to retrieve items from your user profile created originally under the UCMOLIB domain.
