Announcements and Updates:
You are responsible for reading your e-mail @uci.edu: class announcements will be sent there.
Class Homepage And Piazza
Check the ICS 51 website frequently. All lecture notes, homework and other material will be posted here.
We will be using Piazza for class discussion. Find our class page at:
https://piazza.com/class/jyw391zd5eaj8
Rather than emailing questions to the teaching staff, please post your questions on Piazza (anonymously if you wish). Piazza is also a good place to post general administrative questions about the class. If you send us an email with a technical or administrative question about the class, we are likely to refer you to Piazza.
If you see a question on the Piazza page that you can help with, please contribute by adding to the “students' answer” for that question. When using Piazza, make sure you avoid posting any part of a solution to homework or lab. This will be considered a violation of Academic Integrity. As a rough guideline, general clarifications are usually okay but specific hints are not. Also, it is usually not a good idea to post code, although non-solution-specific code fragments may be acceptable if you need them to illustrate a point. If you are unsure, please err on the side of caution.
Homework And Lab Assignments
There will be two homework assignments during the quarter. Homework assignments should be turned in electronically via EEE. For each homework you should turn in a single PDF file. No other format will be accepted. If you’re using your phone’s camera to scan your homework, make sure it is legible. If your homework is not readable by the readers, they will not grade it and you will receive a 0 for the assignment.
The solutions to the homework problems will be made visible to you after the due date.
There are two lab assignments to be completed individually. Lab assignments should be turned in electronically via EEE as well.
Late assignments:
Exams
Midterm Date: Tuesday, Aug 20 9:00, in class
Duration: 75 min
Final Date: Thursday, Sep 5 9:00 AM, in class
Duration: 100 min
Grading
Your grade in ICS 51 will depend on your performance on the final exam, homework assignments, midterm, and lab assignments. The following weights will be used:
Homeworks will be graded based on effort, not correctness. However, you need to clearly show your work.
Individual lab assignments may carry different weights depending on the degree of difficulty. Note that no partial credit will be given for individual lab problems.
