Last Ever Lunch With Us @ Miller Avenue

Saturday, December 29, 2018

GLO is hosting our very last "Lunch with Us" at Miller Avenue church on December 29, as the program is not continuing in 2019.

We would like to close out this long-standing GLO ministry with a special holiday meal of turkey and all the fixings.

If you would like to help prepare the food at GLO Saturday morning; serve lunch at Miller Avenue; or make some PB&J sandwiches, contact Sara Johansen at   440-382-1205.

OCWM Special Mission Offering

Sunday December 16, 2018

Our OCWM offering is received every year because in the United Church of Christ we believe the church’s mission is changing lives; individually, systemically and globally. Our gifts support local church ministries, new church starts, changing lives through global partnerships, missionaries and advocacy. Please consider giving to this important work through a gift to OCWM on December 16, 2018 during worship.

Angle Tree!!

Once again, I am happy to say, we will have an Angel Tree in the Narthex during Advent. Thank you, Nancy Bracht and Patti Grabenhorst!

If you haven’t been here long enough to know, the Angel Tree is one way we connect with needy families in the Norton School District, by providing age appropriate gifts for children who otherwise would not receive any presents.

See Kurt or Nancy Bracht for information.

Stewardship Drive Ongoing

Friends, the Stewardship Drive for the 2019 Budget continues through December 31, 2018. So, if you didn’t get your pledge card in last Sunday on Stewardship Sunday, just drop it in the collection plate any time between now and year’s end, or give it to Bob Covington, Treasurer. Thank you!

Note from Mac regarding 2019 pledges

For us “OLD Folks” getting RMD’s from our IRA’s we know this is taxable income. However, did you know if the RMD goes directly from the IRA to the Church it is non-taxable income. Keep this in mind as you consider your 2019 pledge. It can benefit both you and GLO. For details consult your IRA provider.

Upcoming Community Events

Advent Spiritual Centering Groups

During the four weeks of Advent, we prepare for the celebration of Christ’s birth through prayer and reflection. We contemplate the First Coming of Jesus as Savior, and anticipate his promised Second Coming. And amid the flurry of Christmas preparations, we look for practical ways to observe the holiness of the season in our everyday lives.

This year you will have 3 ways to observe the holiness of the season:

#1 Daily Reflections on the Advent Scriptures

Please visit  for daily inspiration.

#2 HOPE! An anchor, or a “thing with feathers” with Heather Wicks

Five Wednesdays between November 28 and concluding on December 26, 2018

Bertsch Lounge     Noon to 1:00pm

(Bring a sack lunch or not, your choice)

HOPE! An anchor, or a “thing with feathers” (Dickenson) that keeps you from discouragement or even despair? Advent is definitely a time that offers HOPE, in a big way. Join a group of GLO folks in the beautiful, newly refurbished Bertsch Lounge as we are fed on the marvelous words of the Old Testament prophets speaking to us in this Year of Luke; Jeremiah, Malachi, Zephaniah, Micah and Isaiah. We will spend this time together being grounded in the hope that has kept our Jewish brothers and sisters nourished for millennia, and which we Christians read as the prophecy of the coming of God’s son, our Savior, Jesus, into the world.

#3 Wednesday Evening Retreats

December 5th, December 12th, and December 19th.  7:00pm
