Methods and Data

Authors might agree regarding a hypothetical set of relationships among phenomena, but disagree about the relative importance of different relationships because they have different empirical evidence. The interdisciplinarian needs then to evaluate the different empirical evidence in light of an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different methods and data types [see Classifying Methods]. Interdisciplinarians, by identifying potential biases, can then hope to triangulate a more accurate empirical understanding. They may identify a mixed methods research program that can achieve enhanced understanding [see Performing Mixed Methods Research]
