The University of Alberta Geotechnical Centre and the Oil Sands Tailings Research Facility (OSTRF) are pleased to have hosted the Sixth International Oil Sands Tailings Conference held December 9-12, 2018, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

This conference is the premier platform for oil sands operators, consultants, regulators and academia to present and learn about oil sands tailings management state of practise, recent technological advancements and novel research. The scope of this year’s event included invited speakers and select technical presentations on topics including innovations in tailings management and dewatering technologies, regulatory policy and guidelines, mine waste structure integrity and closure/reclamation considerations.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The scope of this year’s event will include invited speakers and select technical presentations on topics including innovations in tailings management and dewatering technologies, regulatory policy and guidelines, mine waste structure integrity and closure/reclamation considerations. Papers will be presented under the following technical themes:

  • Mine Waste Structure Integrity
  • Soft Tailings and Stabilization 
  • Tailings Dewatering 
  • Reclamation 
  • Chemical Interactions
  • New Tailings Management Concepts
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Tailings Dam Decommissioning

Prospective authors are invited to submit abstracts (prepared in English) limited to 250 words including a short title as well as the names of all authors and their affiliations. Abstracts must be submitted to viviang@ualberta.ca by May 14, 2018. Authors will be notified regarding abstract acceptance by June 15, 2018. Final papers are due October 1, 2018, and must be submitted to viviang@ualberta.ca.
