Dear Fellow Researcher,
On behalf of the organizing committee of the Alberta Virology Conference I would like invite you to participate in a two-day meeting to be held June 1-2, 2017 at the University of Alberta. Anyone with an interest in virology, whether it be near or far, academia or industry is welcome to submit an abstract and register to attend this exciting meeting.
We have assembled an organizing committee that consists of virology researchers from all of Alberta. The goal is to bring together the vast virological expertise that exists in this Province and showcase the exciting work that is being done. Our hope is that this will not only be an informative meeting, but will also serve to further strengthen the Virology network in the province and foster collaboration.
We have booked internationally-respected virologist, Dr. Gary Kobinger (Laval University) to give a keynote presentation on the second day, June 2nd, talking about emerging viral diseases.
There are some unique and exciting aspects to this meeting. In particular, the core services at some of the institutions across Alberta will be showcased with talks from the core managers on their technological expertise. Each day of the meeting will include a one hour panel discussion where audience participation will be encouraged and necessary. One of the panel topics will be Training Opportunities in Infectious Diseases at the University of Alberta hosted by Dr. Matthias Götte, Chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Alberta.
Another goal is to showcase the students and trainees who are on the front lines of Virology in Alberta. A limited number of abstracts that are submitted by students and trainees will be chosen to present their work as oral presentations. We will host a poster session with a wine and cheese mixer on the first day. A Conference Dinner is being held at La Ronde restaurant in downtown Edmonton. This is Edmonton’s only revolving restaurant and allows those attending to take in the beauty of the river valley and, hopefully, a lovely prairie sunset while establishing new collaborations with your fellow Alberta Virology Faculty. The dinner will cost an additional $80 CDN per person.
As an esteemed Virology Researcher in Alberta we would like to invite you to attend this meeting. Please see the attached preliminary draft schedule. Registration fee will be $100 CDN for faculty and $20 CDN for trainees and research associates. For out of town guests we have secured special rates at hotels within walking distance or very close to LRT stations that serve the University.
We look forward to having you join us in June for this exciting meeting!
