Research Areas and Interests: 

Carbon and nitrogen transformations and fluxes in managed and natural land ecosystems. Integrated assessments of soil carbon sequestration and greenhouse gases exchange in reference and changing environments. Management options towards greenhouse gas mitigation, climate change adaptation, and enhanced resilience in land ecosystems. Evaluations of soil functions and ecosystem services. Other keywords include sustainability, land restoration, water and nutrient management, precision agriculture, food security, croplands, grasslands, forests, and alpine.


Guillermo received his B.Sc. from EARTH University (Costa Rica), and his Ph.D. from Purdue University (Indiana, US). He previously worked as an agriculture and soil science professor at University of Panama (Panama), as a postdoctoral researcher with USDA-ARS at the National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment (Iowa, US), and as a scientist with Plant and Food Research Institute (New Zealand).
