Do you want to select which calendars to sync with your mobile Apple device?

For iPhone/iPad/iPod if you have multiple calendars in your Google account or are subscribed to multiple calendars, you can select which ones get synced to your device by logging into Google in a web
browser then visiting this site: https://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect

Select the calendars you want to sync and click "Save"(bottom right) after making your choices.

Google Apps No Longer Supports Export to Old Format of Office Files as of January 31, 2013

Google will discontinue support of Google Docs exported in Office 1997-2003 format (.doc, .xls, .ppt) on January 31, 2013 -- an extension of the original date of October 1, 2012. After January 31, 2013, if you access Google Docs or Google Drive and attempt to download a document, existing office format download options  (docx, xslx, pptx) are still supported in addition to any other existing options.

If you need to upgrade your office suite you may be eligible to receive Microsoft Office 10 from OIT as part of our campus agreement. To take advantage of this offer, you must report through one of the following participating units.

  • Academic Affairs
  • Advancement
  • Finance and Administration
  • President's Office
  • Office of Diversity

Please complete the standard Software Request Form and send to oit@uah.edu to order these free products.

See this blog entry for some great tips. But remember that you are limited to 100 recipients when sending via Outlook and 500 recipients via Google Apps in a web browser client. If you regularly send to larger groups contact OIT to explore your options.

Want to open a google mail compose window instead of the default desktop mail client?

This free Google Chrome web browser plugin makes html mailto links open a google mail compose window instead of the default desktop mail client opening.

After installing, make sure and go into tools->extensions and use its options to define the google apps domain to be uah.edu so it uses your uah account instead of gmail.com.

Make your alias your preferred "send mail from" address

You can now set your default email address to send mail from. Previously, all email sent was associated with your official UAH email address so that is the address recipients saw when receiving an email from you, now you can add your alias and have that address be your preferred address.
