House of Gladiators Class of 2014

The group shot above includes twenty-seven Class of 2014 Tefft Gladiator graduates. They have ventured into universities across the country to prepare for bright futures in fields not limited to acting, actuarial science, art, astrophysics, criminology, engineering, medicine, special operations in the U.S. Air Force and writing!

My stellar students drive me to explore diverse topics that allow each of us to develop as critical thinkers and eloquent communicators. Together, we gain inspiration from Socrates to inquire, from Aristotle to craft our ideas and from Vygotsky to learn from one another in a supportive learning environment that fosters risk-taking and welcomes mistakes as learning opportunities.

During the 2016-17 school year, sixteen of my Tefft colleagues and I earned an English as a Second Language endorsement. After investing nine years teaching gifted learners in the House of Gladiators, I jumped at the opportunity to earn my Gifted Education Teacher endorsement during the summer of 2015. Back in 2011, I became a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescence English Language Arts. I earned my Master of Arts degree in teaching from Northeastern Illinois University in 2001, and I graduated from the University of Illinois in 1983 as a psychology major. The 2019-20 school year marks my twentieth year of teaching, my eighteenth year at Tefft, my fifteenth year teaching gifted learners and my fourth year teaching gifted dual language learners!
