TAMU Winter Classic

Held Jan. 26-28, 2018 thanks to the leadership efforts of Jim Garner and Jeff Swoboda '93, David Springer, Vince Martinez, and Izzy Gacia with the support of Louis Lopez, VP of Operations at Greater San Antonio YMCA.
Top of the game pro of yore, Allan Garner of San Antonio held three worthy singles opponents to an average of 3 points per game to sail thru the Open Singles bracket while teaming with Vince Martinez to take Open Doubles holding three talented teams to 4.5 points per game. Allans' still got it!
USHA National women's singles runner-up 2012, Jen Schmitt of New Braunfels, was equally impressive holding her three opponents to an average of less than 6 points per game, waltzing thru Women's Singles. Jens' game is back after recovering from a broken wrist in not too distant months! Collegiate players got to see what great handball looks like. See all brackets below.
Our event drew 42 entrants playing in 7 brackets as attached below by division. Tournament hospitality provided by David Springer, Vince Martinez and Jim Garner was enjoyed during the tourney with a Saturday night dinner at Alamo Cafe set up by Jeff Swoboda '93. Food was great and everyone got a chance to win TIEBREAKER CASH with Nate Frank picking up $100!
Join us late January 2019 (date TBD) for our next TAMU Winter Classic in preparation for USHA's 67th National Collegiate Championships at University of Minnesota!
