2016 Collegiates

64th USHA National Collegiate Handball Championships February 24-28, 2016
University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN

TAMU Men's Handball team took top honors in Division A (players who learn the game in college) nudging

Stoney Brook University of New, York on the last day of the tournament.

If a men's team title for TAMU Handball was to be won, it would be on the broad shoulders of leftie Mark Munson to win his final match in division B1 facing rival Ben Browder of University of Texas. Mark played confident and steady with a smart mix of good serves followed by kills, pass shots and solid defense winning the men's individual National B1 Title, worth 320 team points, by defeating Browder 21-10, 21-14, thus securing the Men's Team Division A Championship over Stoney Brook. Other teams rounding out Division A were University of Illinois, University of Minnesota and Pacific University.

Top six team point earners for TAMU Handball were Jordan Lyle @ 348, Marshall Strain @ 336, Will Van Brunt @ 328, Bill Foran @ 324, Nathan Riddle @ 324 and Mark Munson @ 320.

TAMU Handball Women's Singles Results

Katie Nieswiadomy of Texas A&M University doggedly wins the Women’s 9-16 Championship Bracket defeating Natasha Coughlan of University of Limerick in the finals 15-21, 21-15, 11-5...her eighth handball match in five days. Court sense, from years of racquetball tournament play, teamed well with Katie's confidence under pressure for her first Nationals 9th place finish in Women's Open Singles. Impressive!

Developing a wider variety of serves and increasing her rally ending skill set will be the key to Katie's future handball success.

TAMU Handball Women's Doubles Results

Katie Nieswiadomy and Sarah Lehman of Texas A&M University decisively win the Women’s A Doubles Championship Bracket defeating Teresa Wright and Julia Naumes of Pacific University in the finals 21-5, 21-11.

Coming off her Women’s 9-16 Championship Bracket win earlier Sunday morning, Katie found A Doubles with Sarah a much easier challenge with good teamwork and consistent play from the pair.

Earlier doubles wins in the round of eight against Roisin Meehan and Ni Choichubhair (TDC), then in the semi's vs. Becca Brown and Karissa Komo of (PU) preceded the championship match vs. Wright and Naumes (PU). Congrats!
