Vision and hearing screenings required by the State of Vermont are conducted at school annually. All students in Preschool, Kindergarten and grades 1, 3 and 5 receive a vision and hearing screening. All students in grades 7, 9 and 12 receive a vision screening. In addition, all students with an Individual Education Plan will receive an annual vision and hearing screening. If at any point you feel that your child may be experiencing difficulties with vision and/or hearing please let the nurse know and an additional screening can be conducted.

If the results of a student's screening shows that they require further evaluation from your primary care provider, or a vision or hearing specialist, you will be notified by mail. If you do not want you child to be screened please let the nurse know by October 15th of each new school year.

Also, because a school screening is not as comprehensive as an examination by a specialist (optometrist, audiologist, etc.), your child should always have a complete examination no matter what their screening results are if you suspect that he or she has a problem in any of these areas.
