Social Studies

“Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.”     - Franklin D. Roosevelt

Social Studies includes the study of social relationships and the functioning of society, including history, geography, government, economics, psychology, and various other social sciences. Three years of social studies credits are required for graduation; these include World History/Geography, US History, and Government & Economics. A nice variety of elective social studies courses are offered as well.

Close Up Trip to Washington, DC

Each year our junior and senior students have an opportunity to travel to our nation’s capital in the “Close Up” program and learn about our country’s government up close and personal. Students spend a week in Washington attending class and touring the city while gaining a better understanding our government.

Each year a different sponsor (social studies teacher) will “host” the trip. The trip is usually in the spring of the year, so listen for details about this great opportunity in your junior and senior level social studies classes. You can even use the tax credit system to help alleviate the cost of the trip to your wallet.
