Hi!  My name is Julie Parah.  For the 2015-2016 academic year I am teaching four sections of Algebra II, one section of AP Calculus and a Math Lab.  In prior years I have taught Progressions to Common Core Algebra, Algebra II, Precalculus & Trigonometry, AP Calculus, Business Math, iOS Application Development, Middle School Algebra and Middle School Pre-Algebra. I began teaching at Green Mountain in 2006 after working in the telecommunications industry for 20 years.  In addition to teaching, I have been the Girls Varsity Soccer
Coach and MathCounts Coach here at GM.  I grew up in Highgate Springs, VT, just south of the Canadian border. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Vermont (1986) and Masters in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania (1987).  I made the career change to teaching because I love learning - always have.  I want to share that passion with young people and help them acquire the skills and techniques to improve their learning; hoping they come to love it too!  My philosophy about education is that it's the students' job to learn and the teacher's job to provide the opportunity to learn.  Neither goal can be fully accomplished without the other.  Both student and teacher need to accept and share responsibility for learning and the effectiveness of opportunities to learn.  My husband, Todd, two of my three children and I live in Chester - Casie graduated from GM last year and is attending Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL to study Psychology. Mack is a Junior here at Green Mountain.  My oldest daughter, Lindsey, graduated from GM in 2010, from UVM with a Plant Biology/Chemistry degree in 2014 and is living in Burlington, VT.  When we aren't working, Todd and I enjoy the beautiful scenery of southern Vermont on our Harley Davidson!
