  • Advancement Opportunities

Remember to work with an Experienced Scout for your training. Once you and your Trainer are satisfied that you know and understand the material, ask to be reviewed by an ASM (Assistant Scoutmaster).

Ask Mr. Passaro, Advancement Chairperson to record your accomplishments in TM (TroopMaster).

Once you have everything signed off ask Mr. Lane for a SM (Scoutmaster) Conference.

The next Court of Honor (COH) is scheduled for the last Troop Meeting of the school year 6/11.

We are anticipating presenting a lot of Rank Advancements at the June COH. The final Board of Review (BOR) for this Scout year is on Monday, June 4.

Note: BOR is not required for Scout Rank

Make sure to review your IHR (Individual History Report) regularly and that it is up to date by emailing Mr. Passaro (passaroj@hotmail.com). Try and schedule SM Conferences in advance with Mr. Lane (gslane@chubb.com).

Merit Badge Blue Card (MB Progress Tracking Record) can be requested from Mr. Passaro.

Court of Honor (COH) Awards Ceremony June 11

This will be the last Troop Meeting and Award Ceremony for this Scout year. We will need a MC (Master of Ceremonies) to introduce the Scouts receiving awards. Let Mr. Lane and/or Declan know who is interested. All family members are encouraged to attend. Please bring a snack, desert or beverage to share. Remember this is a formal event and to wear your complete Class A uniform including neckerchief and sash (sash for First Class Rank and above).

  • Youth Leadership Positions Coming Open

    A message from Mr. Lane:

The Spring Term will be wrapping up shortly with a transfer of the Troop’s Leadership occurring the first week in June.

The current PLC (Declan, Mathew, Gaby, Bennet, JT, Stephen) have all done a good job of meeting once a month and planning the Troop’s Meetings and Activities. They will be stepping down from their current positions in order to let someone else take the reins.

Any Scout First Class and above (and preferably 14 years or older)  is eligible to run for SPL (Senior Patrol Leader). Please communicate to Mr. Lane who is interested in running and feel free to reach out to Mr. Lane and/or Declan with any questions you might have about this position. To be a productive Leader it is recommended that candidates try to limit other curricular activities during their term.

All scouts currently in a positions or responsibility (POR) have the first option of continuing in their current position for a maximum of 2 consecutive terms. This is to encourage Scouts to take on new and different assignments while giving other Scouts opportunities required for their advancement.

  • Adult Volunteer Positions
Please see Mr. Casillas' April 24 email for volunteer positions that are coming open in the Troop.

The Scout year is coming to a close and we need to prepare for next year. Please see the list of volunteer positions that we, as parents, need to fill to be able to operate effectively and help our boys succeed in Scouting.  The list shows each position and the name of the adult(s) that assist in that role. I need one parent per family to respond letting me know if the family volunteer would want to stay on the same position or take a new one.

New Troop parents please review the list and let me know what interests you or if you have any questions.

Ideally we ask volunteers to stay in the same position for 2 years so that the first year the person is learning and the last year in position the person is transferring knowledge to someone else.

  • World Jamboree Registration - Open Now!

    World Jamboree registration is open!

The World Jamboree isn't until summer 2019, but the signup is happening now!

Here's a guide to help you get your Scout registered...  plan on taking about an hour to do the registration, and there's a $250 registration fee for each Scout:

    1) Go to my.scouting.org - you have to create an account there for your Scout.

    2) Once you have their account set up at my.scouting.org, go to https://wsj2019.us/apply/ to start the application process.  (Just a heads up that this takes 30 - 40 minutes to get through all the parts of the application).

    3) Go through the various pages in the application form, and make sure you get all the way through.

    4) Important: Once you've finished and submitted the application, you will get an email to your account that says confirmation email - DON'T ignore this one!  You have to click through and confirm with the link in the email or your application won't get through!

The process is a bit of a pain, but it's worth it.  The World Jamboree will be a once in a lifetime scouting experience - having it practically in our backyard at the Summit in West Virginia is just amazing.  Check out https://www.2019wsj.org/ for more information.

Troop 572 is chartered by Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Potomac Falls, Virginia.

Troop meetings are held in the Parish Hall on Monday evenings, starting at 7:00 pm.
Troop meetings are held during the LCPS school year (September - June).

Camping, fun with friends ... and more. It’s the adventure of a lifetime!

Boy Scouting is for boys who are 11, or are at least 10 years old and have completed the fifth grade or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award, through 17 years old.

Boys experience a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster to achieve the BSA's objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness.

Give your son a valuable gift by encouraging him to join Boy Scouting today. The time you invest in him today will make a difference in the person he becomes tomorrow.
