Background information

I was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. I married my college sweetheart in 1984. Her name is Shirley. We have three children, Andre (Currently serving in the U.S. Army in Kuwait), Shaniell (an early childhood Director for a daycare for kids), and Rodney Jr. (Office Manager for True Loan Corporation). Shaniell and Rodney Jr. are Topeka High Graduates. I have 7 grandchildren who are the love of my life. In my leisure time, I enjoy traveling to visit to visit my children and grandchildren. When I am not traveling to visit family, my wife and I enjoy going on cruises. My hobbies are attending and watching sporting events, and collecting New Orleans Saints Memorabilia. My most prized possession is an autographed Pro Bowl mini football by Drew Brees.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. In 1983. I began teaching at Topeka High School in the fall of 1983 as an Industrial Technology teacher. Along with my teaching duties, I was an assistant Coach in three sports: Basketball, Football, and Track and Field. During my Tenure here at Topeka High, I have been a member of a variety of organizations and committees both at the building and district level. After 14 years in the classroom, and earning a Master in Education Administration from Washburn University, I accepted my current position as an Assistant Principal in the fall of 1997. I have been blessed to have worked with and continue to work with outstanding professionals who believe that all of the students entering Topeka High School can learn. Our students enter THS daily to learn and depart to serve.

Understanding building relationships is an important and integral part of the education process. I believe that the three statements below are important in the process of educating students.

“You must know them to show them.”

“You must reach them to teach them.”

“You must motivate to educate."
