Important Changes regarding Federal Student Aid

1. The Perkins loan program has come to an end. Funding for the low-interest federal Perkins Loan program came to an end on September 30, 2015. Universities and colleges are not allowed to make Federal Perkins Loans available to new borrowers after this date.

2. Coming soon for the current junior class: Filed the FAFSA earlier! Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will begin its processing cycle 3 months earlier - in October 2016. To transition to an earlier start date, the tax data needed for the FAFSA will change. See the chart below.

For 2017-2018, the tax data needed should be on file with the IRS which will allow students and families to utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool immediately when completing the FAFSA. They will no longer need to estimate their income.
