Ms. Paula Reilly - Associate Principal

Greetings! I am excited to serve Topeka High School as the Associate Principal. I have been an assistant principal at THS for the past 6 years. Throughout my 20 year career in TPS, I have served in a variety of roles including teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. I spent my first 9 years in the district at the elementary level, then 4 years at middle school, and the last 7 years at high school. It was a unique opportunity to follow the same class of students through their entire K-12 experience. When my first elementary students were graduating from high school, they’d often ask me if I would be going to college with them, too!

My focus at Topeka High School will be multifaceted to help ensure all students have a positive learning experience that will prepare them for life beyond Topeka High School. I plan to continue our academic focus on AVID (Achievement Via Individual Determination) and WICOR strategies in the critical areas of Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. Topeka High has been an AVID school for the past 11 years and will continue to incorporate best teaching practices to enhance critical thinking skills.

Last year, THS implemented Restorative Practices as a tool to deal with conflict or challenging behavior in a restorative manner. Restorative practice provides a framework to assist students and adults in managing conflicts through conversation, understanding, and defining what needs to happen to make things right. Research has proven that students make positive changes in behavior when adults work “with” them as opposed to only having punitive consequences “to” them. We will continue to implement this approach to solving problems and restoring relationships within our school.

I look forward to working with you this year to ensure your student has a great year. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss concerns or ideas.
