To meet the demand of farmers need and to ensure high Seed Replacement Rate and Varietal Replacement Rate a major initiative was made in 2006 by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University to take up large scale seed production programmes in various Campuses of the University and implement Single Window System of seed production. The initiative was amply supported by Mega Seed Project of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Ultimately, following the guidelines of the ICAR, the “Seed Centre” was established in TNAU on 27.10.2006. The Special Officer (Seeds) was vested with the responsibility of managing and strengthening the seed production chain of the TNAU released varieties, to cater the needs of farmers and to ensure food security of the State. 

         Produce quality seeds of a wide array of crops,ensure timely availability at the farm gate and enhance Seed Replacement Rate that promote farm productivity and food security.
