The Research Station, Vridhachalam was established in 1963 as Cashew Research Station. This was later (1982) upgraded as Regional Research Station (RRS) under NARP for north eastern zone of Tamil Nadu. The RRS is situated about 3 km from Vriddhachalam bus stand, on Cuddalore Main road. It lies between 11.30N latitude and 79.26E longitude and at an altitude of 46.7 m above MSL. Soil status: Red laterite/sandy soil, pH 6.5, EC - 0.5 dsm-1 Maximum temperature varies from 30-40oC and minimum temperature ranges from 18 -24 oC.  The annual mean rainfall is 1050 mm. The nearest seacoast is within 60 km distance. Groundnut, Sesame and Cashew are the mandatory crops of this station. Various farming systems are taken in the district viz., Command areas, Irrigated agricultural systems, Rainfed agricultural systems, Livestock production and Inland aquaculture.
