The New India Manthan: Sakalp Se
Siddhi programme was held at ICAR-KVK, Kanyakumari on
29.08.2017. The Hon’le Union Minister of state for Road transport &
Highways and Shipping, Pon.Radhakrishnan inaugurated the function by opening
the exhibition stalls and released the technical bulletin for the benefit of
the farmers. In his special address he urged the farmers to adopt the new
agricultural technologies so as to double the farm income. The District
collector and Additional Collector and Project Director, DRDA, Kanyakumari
District also felicitated the farmers. The Officials of Department of
Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, Fisheris, Animal
Husbandry, NABARD, Lead Bank, Principal Scientist, Central Tuber Crops Research
Institute, Kerala and Professor and Heads of TNAU delivered technical lectures
and felicitated the farmers. In this function 455 farmers from various blocks
of Kanyakumari District participated and benefited.
TECHNOLOGY WEEK 23- 29.12.2016
1) Essay
competition on “Role of Agriculture in development of Indian Economy”was
conducted on 23.12.2016 at Thirupathisaram, Government High School
2) The programme was organized at Kattathurai Village in collaboration with ATMA and SSEPRS.

- Exhibition on Different fodder crops for
enhancing the milk production of cattle/ milch animals.
- Fodder seed production technologies
- Animal insurance and subsidies schemes
explained by ADA, Thuckelay.
- Leaflet
on Fodder production technologies was distributed to the farmers.
வேளாண்மை அறிவியல் நிலையத்தில் தொழில் நுட்ப வார விழா 23.12.2016 முதல் 29.12.2016 வரை நடைபெறுகிறது. அதில் 23.12.2016 அன்று அரசினா் உயா்நிலைப் பள்ளி, திருப்பதிசாரத்தில் மணவா்களுக்கான கட்டுரைப் போட்டி பொருளாதாரத்தில் முன்னேறுவதில் வேளாண்மையின் பங்கு என்ற தலைப்பில் நடைபெற்றது. இதன் தொடா்சியாக திருவட்டாா் வட்டாரம், காட்டாத்துறை கால்நடை பராமாிப்பு மையத்தில் பசுந்தீவன சாகுபடி என்ற தலைப்பில் விவசாய்களுக்கு பயிற்சி அளிக்கப்பட்டது.
3) TECHNOLOGY WEEK ORGANIZED AT
ICAR-KVK, THIRUPATHISARAM
As
part of Technology week ICAR-KVK, Thiruapthisaram has organized programme on
Cashless transaction and Agricultural Loans in collaboration with IDBI Bank,
Thuckalay and Vadasery Branch of Kanyakumari District on 26.12.2016 at KVK,
Thirupathisaram. Thiru. S. Krishna Rao, Branch Head, IDBI Bank Vadassery
welcomed the gathering. Dr. S. Suresh, Professor (Soil Science ), Agricultural
Research Station, Thirupathisaram and Dr. R. Premavathi, Programme Coordinator,
ICAR-KVK, Thirupathisaram, and Dr. K. Kavitha, Subject Matter Specialist (
Plant Pathology) in their special
address, they explained the
importance of crop insurance, bank loans and cashless transaction for the
benefit of the farming community.

D.Selva Basker, Proprietor, Enviran India (Renewable Energy Sources and Waste
Treatment Systems) insisted the important
features of bio- gas and briefly
explained about the conversation of biogas from kitchen waste, farm waste and
human waste.

B.Karthick and Thiru. Krishna Rao, Branch Head, IDBI Bank of Thuckalay and
Vadassery briefly explained the different kind of Agricultural loans, Crop insurance
and Cashless transaction to the benefit of the farmers. Totally 100 farmers and
farm women were participated. At the end of the programme farmers raised queries
related to insurance and bank loans and the Bank officials gave appropriate
solutions to the farmers.

SOIL HEALTH DAY PROGRAMME AT MUTHALAKURCHI VILLAGE OF KANYAKUMARI DISTRICT
World Soil Health Day Programme was conducted at Muthalakurchi Village of Thuckalay block of Kanyakumari District on 05.12.2016. Dr. R. Premavathi, Programme Coordinator welcommed the gathering. Tmt. R.Saroja, ATMA Chariman and Ex-Panchayat President Thuckalay inaugurated the World Soil Health Day Programme and Thiru. A. Krishanakumar, Farmer Friend, Thcukalay facilitated the function. Dr. J.Jane Sujatha, Professor and Head, Agricultural Research Station, Thirupathisaram presided over the programme. Dr. S. Suresh, Professor (Soil Science), Agricultural Research Station, Thirupathisaram explained the importance of soil testing and the methodology of usage of fertilizer to the farmers. Demonstration on soil sampling for annual crops and tree crops were conducted and the farmers are also practiced the soil sampling technique. The soil health cards were issued to the farmers as a part of the soil health programme. The leaflet was distributed to the farmers to create awareness about soil health. The rally was organized with farmers emphasized through pluck cards about the awareness on soil health. At the end of the programme, the farmers were raised the queries related to soil health and how to overcome the different kind of problematic soil; the concerned scientists of the KVK were given the detailed explanations for the farmers queries.

INTERACTION MEETING ON ATTRACTING
AND RETAINING YOUTH IN AGRICULTURE
Attracting
and Retaining Youth in Agriculture (ARYA) project is sanctioned by the Indian
Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and is being implemented at ICAR-Krishi
Vigyan Kendra, Thirupathisaram during 2016-17. The main objective of the
project is to provide complete knowledge and skill on processing, value
addition and marketing of coconut and banana products through capacity building
programmes involving research and development organization. Identification of 100 rural youth for
establishment of four registered commodity based groups with 25 members in each
group for coconut and banana and establishment of processing units of value
added products as incubators.
An
interaction meeting of the project on “ARYA” was held at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan
Kendra, Thirupathisaram on 28.11.2016. The Dr. C.V. Sairam, Principal Scientist,
ICAR-ATARI, Bangaluru, Dr. J.Jane Sujatha, Professor and Head, Agricultural
Research Station, Thirupathisaram and Dr. R. Premavathi, Programme Coordinator,
ICAR-KVK, Thirupathisaram, scientists of KVK and youth attended the
Progamme. Dr. C.V. Sairam, and Dr.
J.Jane Sujatha, explained in detail about the objective, importance and
activities of this project. Dr .N. Thavaprakaash,
Assistant Professor, KVK, Thirupathisaram explained about the project and its
action plan for 2016-17. A total of 62 youth attended the programme.

and Retaining Youth in Agriculture
Attracting and Retaining
Youth in Agriculture (ARYA) project is sanctioned by the Indian Council of

Professor and Heads of Agricultural Research Station, Thirupathisaram, Horticultural Research Station, Pechiparai,
Floricultural Research Station,
Thovalai, Officials from Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry,
Agribusiness and Marketing, Sericulture, Lead Bank Manager and Progressive farmers
of Kanyakumari district attended the meeting. The Programme Coordinator Dr. R. Premavathi
welcomed the gathering. Dr.N.Thavaprakaash, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) explained
about the project and its action plan for 2016-17. A total of 100 interested youth
to become entrepreneurs in banana and coconut was selected. In this meeting,
the programme scheduled for the youth viz.,
trainings, demonstrations and exposure visits were finalized. The meeting was
concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. M.I. Manivannan, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) of ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Thirupathisaram.

Swachhta
Pakhwada
Swachhta Pakhwada was followed by ICAR-KVK, Kanyakumari
from 16th to 31st October 2016, Swachhta pledge was taken
by the ICAR-KVK, staff members on 17.10.2016. In order to create awareness
Swachh Bharat Mission, KVK conducted awareness cum rally and cleaning
activities in the nearby schools and in villages. During the programmes the
students and farmers were emphasized on the importance wordings of cleanliness
rally was arranged through the villages. Cleaning activities were also carried
to create awareness. In addition, the importance of cleanliness, ill effects
of adulteration, use of waste recycling
and organic composting were explained to the farmers during the regular KVK trainings
during this period.

ARYA
Stakeholders meeting was held at
ICAR-KVK, Kanyakumari under the Chairmanship of Dr. K. Narayana Gowda, Former
Vice- Chancellor and Zonal Committee Chairman for ARYA project on 17.09.2016. Dr.
H. Philip, Director of Extension Education, TNAU, Coimbatore welcomed the
gathering. Dr.Sreenath Dixit, Director, ICAR ATARI, Bengaluru explained in
detail about the ARYA project. Dr.R.Premavathi, Programme Coordinator, ICAR-KVK, Kanyakumari
presented in detail the Action plan of ARYA project 2016-17. Dr.Parasuraman, Co-ordinator,
Youth and Sustainable Development, MSSRF foundation, Chennai gave valuable
suggestions for effective implementation of the project.
All
line department officials, bank officials and scientists from TNAU participated
and expressed their views for successful implementation of the project. The
meeting concluded with Vote of Thanks, by Dr C V Sairam, Nodal Officer, ARYA
Project, ICAR-ATARI, Bengaluru.
