Glimpses of students activities

 

Samathuva Pongal was celebrated by the students and staff of AC & RI, Eachangkottai on 12.01.2015 to encourage the social harmony.  Dr. R. Rajendran, Director, TRRI, Aduthurai and Dr. V. Ravi, P&H, SWMRI participated and motivated the students.

Republic day was celebrated on 26.01.2015 along with the Diploma students. National flag was hoisted and the students participated in the march past. Dr. K. Samiayyan, Special Officer, AC&RI, Thanjavur and Dr. V. Ravi, P&H, SWMRI presided the different events and students performed cultural programmes.

Totally, seventeen students were participated in TALENTIA, 2015, a State level Inter-Collegiate Cultural Competition held at AC & RI, Madurai on 6th and 7th of February, 2015. Miss. K. Rajalakshmi won third prize in English Creative Writing   among thirty two Colleges participated.

Thirty three students of our college were participated in the different events of TNAU – Inter Collegiate Tournament and Sports Meet, 2015 organized at AC & RI, Madurai from 15.02.2015 to 22.02.2015.

            FREEDOM, 2015, a Inter-Collegiate Cultural Competition was organized at ADAC & RI, Trichy on 5th and 6th of March, 2015 and twelve students participated in the different events. Miss. R. Poorvasandhya won second prize in Classical solo dance.

            Personality development programme was organized for two days on 21 & 22.03.2015 for the students to develop interpersonal relationship, time management and to avoid stress and many experts imparted skill development training to the students.

Dr. A. Abdul Kareem, former Vice Chancellor of TNAU, delivered speech on 26.03.2015 about the Genesis and Milestones of TNAU and created enthusiasm among the students about the future scope in agriculture.   

 
             As a part of the “Clean India” Programme – 2014 announced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, the NSS volunteers involved in cleaning the ladies hostel premises at Tamil University, Thanjavur on 22.08.2015. The importance and necessity of “Clean India” programme was explained and emphasized among the occupants of the ladies hostel.

               A special NSS camp for the II B.Sc. (Agri.) students was organized and conducted successfully at Karamanithoppu village of Poyundarkottai Panchayat from 04.03.2016 to 10.03.2016. The Hon’ble Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Agricultural Thiru. R. Vaithilingam, inaugurated the function and delivered the special address. Around 250 farmers participated in the meeting. 2016 - International Year of Pulses - Introduction Campaign was also conducted simultaneously. 50 kg of VBN - 6 Black gram seeds distributed to 10 farmers.  During the camp various activities like Village statistics collection, Bank services, Awareness programme on Blood and Organ donation, Women education, Self employment, Dengue fever and its control, Ill effects of alcohol addiction and smoking, Clean India were organized to the farm public of Karamanithoppu village. Demonstrations were also conducted on various agricultural and allied activities like Pulse wonder application, maintaining herbal and kitchen gardening, finding food adulteration were successfully done. Other important activities like tree planting (200 nos.), dental checkup for elementary school children, veterinary camp by vaccinating 150 cattle against FMD,   removing polythene bags in the village were conducted. Different cultural programmes on the above topics were conducted by the students and games competitions were organized for the Elementary school children of the village. The camp was successfully completed with valedictory function which was chaired by Dr. K. N. Selvakumar, Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanad.

Hon’ble Minister distributing VBN BG - 6 Seeds to farmers

 

Passport mela

A Passport mela was organized for the II B.Sc. (Agri.) students of AC&RI, Eachangkottai combined with RVS Agricultural College, Sengipatti, Thanjavur on 23.02.2016. A total of 24 students were facilitated to get passport (nation unique id) from the Regional Passport Kendra, Thanjavur. 

An opportunity to develop the language skill - a total number of 34 students including 24 girls and 10 boys were facilitated to attend special Hindi class and given coaching to attend Parishaya exam during last year. All the students successfully cleared and secured first class in the “Parishaya – 2016” exam conducted on 03.01.2016.

In order to meet the requirement of local needy farmers, 3000 coconut seedlings were distributed, thereby helping them to go for planting in the appropriate season and enhance intensity of coconut cultivation during January, 15 onwards. 

In the International year of pulses 2016, TNAU Pulse wonder, an agro input of TNAU was distributed to farmers to improve pulses production and the technology was also demonstrated to the farmers by the scientists during the NSS campaign. 40 kg of Pulse Wonder was sold to farmers.

The students of II B. Sc (Ag.) participated in the “National Conference on achievements, challenges and opportunities in environmental biotechnology for sustainable livelihood security” organized by Tamil Nadu Scientific Research Organization and Department of Biotechnology on 27th and 28th Feb, 2016 at Pudukkottai.  Thirty five students in groups presented posters on various topics of the conference and one group won IInd prize in the poster presentation.

From this college, eight students from I. B.Sc. (Ag.) participated in various events like quiz, photography and treasure hunt of the AGRONOVA 2016 conducted by
AC & RI, 2016, at Coimbatore on 06.03.2016.

A total of seven students from this college sent for selection trial to participate in Agri Uni Sports 2016 conducted on 11.02.2016 at TNAU, Coimbatore. One girl
A. S. Mohanasri, II B.Sc.(Agri.) selected to represent the TNAU Kabbadi University team and participated in the event conducted on 06.03.2016 at TNAU.  The team won upto semifinals.

As a part of NSS activity all the Second year B.Sc. (Agri.) students were taken to Victoria Old age home at Thanjavur. The students stayed with the home people for one full day by involving themselves in the activities of the home and people.  The senior citizens rejuvenated and enthused in life.

      

             Based on the letter circulation of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, TNAU steps were taken to motivate the students on Essay Competition on Water Saving by Students. Six students submitted their essays and sent to Central Ground Water Commission, Chennai. Among these Th. P. Prakash, II B.Sc. (Agri.) student of this College was selected at state level (2nd position) and he will be attending the on the spot competition on 17.03.2016 at Chennai for National level participation at Delhi.
