Welcome to Spruce Hill Adventure School

Greetings! My name is Robert Meyers and I have been with the Trillium Lakelands District School Board for twenty years. I have been teaching at Sprucehill for ten years. I grew up in North York and after graduating from CW Jefferys Secondary School in 1985, I attended the University of Toronto for Physical and Health Education as well as my Bachelor of Education. Prior to this position, I taught various grades from primary to senior for nine years. I spent many summers guiding canoe trips for youth at risk and working in the outdoor education field. It was here that I witnessed many kids and young adults gain confidence and self-esteem by challenging them to go beyond their comfort level both physically and mentally. In my program, I provide daily and weekly adventures that give the students an opportunity to challenge themselves individually within a team environment (hiking, mountain biking racing, nordic skiing, paddling, low/high ropes etc.). Through these activities and adventures, my main goal is to increase their ability to work within a team environment (social skills) and improve their self-confidence, esteem and mental toughness. I see myself as a teacher/coach preparing them for their transitions back to their families and community schools. I continue to challenge myself personally through activities such as cycling, paddling, skiing and hiking.

Josie (my Golden Retriever) helps out in the classroom sharing her therapeutic qualities with the students.
