TaxAide of Tidewater Virginia
The AARP Tax-Aide program has nearly 33,500 volunteers staffing 8,500 sites across the United States. In the Tidewater area, in 2011, nearly 120 IRS tax preparers provided free tax counseling and preparation services to over 12,000 low- and middle-income taxpayers of all ages, at eight locations in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Chesapeake.
Locally, we badly need more volunteers. Our reputation for providing quality, free tax preparation service is growing faster than our volunteer work force. We are the largest and fastest growing TaxAide district in Virginia and one of the largest in the country. We provide free training for our volunteers.
If you are interested in a very rewarding volunteer experience just click on the "Volunteer with TaxAide" link on the left for more info.
The AARP Foundation, which sponsors the TaxAide program, is a 501c(3) organization. This means that any contribution of equipment you make to the program is tax deductible. The AARP budget for equipment is always too small to meet requirements. Donations of computers and monitors, by individuals or businesses, is an essential part of maintaining our capability. Help the program by donating used, but still usable, equipment and get a valid tax deduction. Just click on the "Donations Page" on the left for more info.
Our operating sites include:
