This year was a huge improvement for the boys varsity basketball team.. They already have more wins than the last two seasons. “The entire team is playing with a lot of confidence,” said head coach Tyler Bormann. “They’re forming good habits on the court, staying in their lanes and playing good defense.”

Since last year, the entire team has matured. The entire senior class has stepped up in their roles since last year, which is one of the reasons the team is finding more success this year. This includes Mohammed Kareem, Ben Nelson, Ethan Hoff, Alend Alemadi, Noah Melton, and James Eggert. “They all give great effort and they’re competitive,” said Bormann. Some underclassmen have stepped up since last year as well, including Maleeck Harden and Drew Hagen. There have been some tough games throughout the season as Maple Grove and Osseo have been some of the more difficult teams Moorhead has played so far. The Osseo loss was only decided by three points, and Osseo is ranked sixth in the entire state of Minnesota. “Defense, guarding, pushing the ball and passing the ball are our strengths,” said Bormann. Some weaknesses to the team were lack of rebounds and consistency, but that just takes time, positioning, and practice to improve. Bormann says the main reason the team is winning games is the positive energy going around. “The whole team is giving positive energy, there has been more energy givers than takers throughout these past five games,” said Bormann.

Coach Bormann is positive about this team’s future. Moorhead has a lot of upside to their team, this is a team that is competitive and wants to win. As the rest of the season plays out, you can look for Moorhead to be a rising team in the state.
