The Rational Majority has been a one year long team effort of dedicated volunteers. Besides being an accurate information resource, we have created a model to do our work totally cash free. We have done our work with a strict zero budget. Unlike most campaigns of this type, we have neither solicited nor accepted one dollar, nor have we spent any money. Everyone has worked without any financial compensation, not even expense accounts.
Our fantastic team has worked every day for one year to produce 366 SNAP-FACTS, one-a-day like a vitamin pill for your mind.

We are voting for a Candidate for President, but the winner will bring a steamer trunk full of baggage with them in the person of their Vice President, Cabinet appointments, advisors, appointees, contributors, mouthpieces, and perhaps most importantly – supreme court appointments.
We can only scratch the surface in this SNAP-CAP but you will get the idea of the comparison of character, integrity, and success levels of the decisions made by those who will accompany the winning candidate to D.C.
PRESIDENT OBAMA'S SUCCESSFUL, EXPERIENCED TEAM
Joe Biden, Vice President. Served 36 years in the U.S. Senate, and four years as Barack Obama's vice president. Biden was on the Foreign Relations Committee for his entire Senate tenure, sometimes serving as its chairman. He carved out a reputation as a brainy and talkative expert in international relations. His focus was on Soviet relations, arms control, the Balkans and NATO expansion.
Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State. Before serving
in the administration of President Barack Obama. She was a United
States Senator for New York from 2001 to 2009. As the wife of the 42nd
President of the United States, Bill Clinton, she was the First Lady of
the United States from 1993 to 2001.
Jacob Joseph "Jack" Lew, White House Chief of Staff. Served under Presidents Obama and Clinton as Director of the Office of Management and Budget and earlier, was Principal domestic-policy adviser to House Speaker Tip O’Neill. He is an orthodox Jew.
Senior Advisor. Ms. Jarrett has held positions in both the public and
private sector, including the Chairman of the Chicago Transit Board, the
Commissioner of Planning and Development for the City of Chicago, and
Deputy Chief of Staff for Mayor Richard M. Daley. Jarrett also served as
Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Stock Exchange, Director of the
Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and Chairman of the University of
Chicago Medical Center Board of Trustees.
Gene B. Sperling,
Senior Economic Advisor. Director of the National Economic Council
under Presidents Obama and Clinton, and now serves as assistant to the
president for economic policy.
David M. Axelrod, Senior Advisor. Was top political advisor to President Bill Clinton and ccampaign advisor to President Barack Obama during Obama's successful run for Presidency in 2008. He currently is Senior Strategist for Obama's re-election campaign.
David Plouffe, Senior Advisor. A long-time Democratic Party campaign consultant. Was campaign manager for Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign in the United States. He is credited with the campaign's successful overall strategy in the race (primarily against Senator Hillary Clinton) for the Democratic Party presidential nomination.
Robert Gibbs, White House press secretary during the first term. After leaving the podium in early 2011, Gibbs emerged as one of Obama's most ardent defenders during the 2012 Republican primaries and on cable television as the general election took shape. Gibbs was with Obama before Obama gained national prominence during the 2004 Democratic National Convention and understands Obama's message as well as anyone.
Leon Panetta, Secretary of Defense. The
23rd and current United States Secretary of Defense, serving in the
administration of President Barack Obama since 2011. Prior to taking
office, he served as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
Panetta served as President Bill Clinton's White House Chief of Staff
from 1994 to 1997, Director of the Office of Management and Budget from
1993–1994, and was a member of the United States House of
Representatives from 1977 to 1993.
Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Retired United States Navy admiral, who served as the 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2011. Mullen previously served as the Navy's 28th Chief of Naval Operations. He was only the third naval officer in Navy history to be appointed to four different four-star assignments; the others being the Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Commander, Allied Joint Force Command Naples, and as the 32nd Vice Chief of Naval Operations. As Chairman, Mullen was the highest-ranking officer in the United States Armed Forces. He retired from the Navy after over 43 years of service.
Tom Donilon, National Security Adviser. Is serving in the Obama Administration, and has had a career as a U.S. political advisor, government official and lawyer. Previously, he served as Agency Review Team Lead for the State Department in the Obama transition, and as Deputy to National Security Advisor James Jones early in the Obama administration. Donilon replaced Jones as National Security Advisor on October 8, 2010.
David Petraeus America’s most famous general is now the CIA chief. His low-profile style has won the loyalty of the White House.
John Brennan, Counter-Terrorism chief. Is serving as chief counterterrorism advisor to U.S. President Barack Obama; officially his title is Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, and Assistant to the President. His responsibilities include overseeing plans to protect the country from terrorism and respond to natural disasters, and he meets with the President daily. Previously, he advised Obama on foreign policy and intelligence issues during the 2008 presidential campaign and transition
Bill Gates, Obama business advisor and Billionaire co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the largest transparently operated private foundation in the world, founded by Bill and Melinda Gates. It is "driven by the interests and passions of the Gates family". The primary aims of the foundation are, globally, to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty, and in America, to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology.
Warren Buffett, Obama business American business magnate, investor, and philanthropist. He is widely considered the most successful investor of the 20th century. Buffet is the primary shareholder, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and consistently ranked among the world's wealthiest people. In 2012, American magazine Time named Buffett one of the most influential people in the world. Buffett is also a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 99 percent of his fortune to philanthropic causes, primarily via the Gates Foundation.
General Colin Powell is the first, and so far the only, African American to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He is a four star general and served as Bush II’s Secretary of State.
GOVERNOR ROMNEY'S ALARMINGLY FAULTED TEAM
Paul Ryan, Domestic Policy Adviser/Vice Presidential Candidate. Repeal ObamaCare advocate. Creator of a health care plan which turns Medicare into a voucher system, that costs seniors more for their health care, and slashes Medicaid services. The money saved ends up as a tax cut for the wealthy. There's no one on Romney's team who embodies the "half the country are moochers" mind set ( on that 47 percent video) more than Ryan.
Dan Senor, Foreign Policy Adviser. A neocon pundit, Senor made his name as a spokesman for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq in the aftermath of the 2003 U.S.-led invasion, gaining a reputation as “the spinmeister responsible for selling the early years of the occupation … as a rosy time—even as bombs exploded daily and sectarian violence ripped apart the country." He recently grabbed attention by getting “a little ahead” of Romney by backing an Israeli strike on Iran. Then Romney cited Senor’s book about Israeli entrepreneurship in his heavily criticized remarks that suggested economic disparities between Israelis and Palestinians could be chalked up to “culture.”
Karl Rove, Republican strategist. Known as “Bush’s Brain” he is back in a big way. Co-founder
of the conservative super PAC American Crossroads and its affiliated
non-profit Crossroads GPS, vowed to spend $300 million on the election.
By far the biggest spender this election cycle, with a donor roster that
is a virtual reprise of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth that ran
attack ads against Democratic Sen. John Kerry in 2004.
Grover Norquist, Lobbyist. Founder of the advocacy group "Americans for Tax Reform" (funded by the billionaire Koch brothers). As one of the most influential figures in Republican politics, Norquist required that Romney, like all other Republicans in Congress, sign a pledge to never raise taxes. This pledge is in direct variance with the American Constitution.
John Bolton, Foreign Policy Adviser. Bush-era ambassador to the United Nations. It's never a bad day to bomb Iran advocate, John Bolton has been pushing for an Iran strike for years. He recently said he thought the Israelis should have bombed Iran "three and a half years ago."
Glenn Hubbard, Economic Adviser. Hubbard, a supply-side economist who was George W. Bush’s first chief economist and the architect of the Bush tax cuts, is an odd choice for this assignment, since any criticism he makes is undermined by the clear failure of his own policies in comparison with those deployed by Obama (which is described by the New York Times as showing “persistent economic growth”).
Robert Bork, Judicial Adviser. Bork was a failed Supreme Court nominee under President Ronald Reagan who played a controversial role in the Watergate scandal. According to Ted Kennedy, "Bork's America is a land in which women would be forced into back-alley abortions, blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters, rogue police could break down citizens' doors in midnight raids [and] schoolchildren could not be taught about evolution." Could he be in the wings as a Supreme Court nominee?
Harold Hamm, Energy Advisor. Self-made American oilman worth $9.7 billion. Advocate of ending federal control of drilling on government land and giving states the authority to frack and mine government lands. The New York Times calls this "a radical shift from decades of policies under both Democrat and Republican presidents." According to Rolling Stone, Hamm has also given nearly $1 million to Romney's super-PAC.
General Tommy Franks, Military Adviser. Retired commander of the US Central Command who led the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Complicit in perpetrating the weapons of mass destruction myth in order get congressional approval for the Iraqi invasion. Once the war was over, he had no plan to deal with the aftermath. Oh, and he is the guy who lost Osama bin Laden when they had him cornered.
Reince Prebus, Republican National Committee Chairman. An inarticulate neo-con leader of the RNC. Priebus is known for his constant racial "dog whistles" about President Obama's birth certificate, gutting welfare, and supposed "un-American" stances. That this anti-American garbage is turning up nationwide, now that Priebus is running the RNC, is of no surprise given his history of scheming to deny legal voters their right to the franchise.
Tom Ridge, Former Pennsylvania Governor and DHS Secretary. Political cheerleader for Mitt Romney. Otherwise employed in private sector endeavors.
Sheldon Adelson, Billionaire casino magnate, has been the leading contributor to outside groups supporting Mitt Romney and other Republican candidates this election cycle, donating tens of millions of dollars. His company, Las Vegas Sands, is also the focus of a federal investigation into possible violations of bribery laws at its casinos in Macau, China. He stands to make billions if Romney is elected as well as having the federal investigation scrapped.
Koch Brothers, Billionaire brothers who are waging a war against Obama. They provide $100's of millions to organizations fighting legislation related to climate change, underwriting a huge network of foundations, think tanks, and political front groups. Indeed, the brothers have funded opposition campaigns against so many Obama Administration policies—from health-care reform to the economic-stimulus program—that, in political circles, their ideological network is known as the Kochtopus. Their father was a founder of the John Birch Society. Much of their vast wealth comes from coal. Is it any wonder why Romney is such a booster of this dirtiest form of energy?
The Misinformation Team, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailes, et al, will continue to misinform and twist the truth no matter who gets elected. If it’s Romney, they will be emboldened in their mendacity.
President Obama & Mitt Romney Side By Side ala the New York Times Endorsement
This is not a one issue campaign. The world is a complex place and we really need a Chess Master to think out the game long term, rather than a vacillator who does not have the intellect or integrity to think past the moment.
The next President should be someone who has the intellectual capacity to make the right decisions. President Obama has time and again demonstrated his towering capacity to make the right choices. He has been right on a great majority of issues while Governor Romney has a sorry record of misjudgments and position changes.
Today’s SNAP-CAP is completely based on the New York Times endorsement of President Obama. We have cut and pasted so the two candidate’s positions are compared side by side. Every word, except some of the titles, is from the Times endorsement. The Rational majority has not inserted any words or opinions:
CHARACTER & INTEGRITY
OBAMA: We have criticized individual policy choices that Mr. Obama has made over the last four years, and have been impatient with his unwillingness to throw himself into the political fight. But he has shaken off the hesitancy that cost him the first debate, and he approaches the election clearly ready for the partisan battles that would follow his victory.
ROMNEY: Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, has gotten this far with a guile that allows him to say whatever he thinks an audience wants to hear. But he has tied himself to the ultraconservative forces that control the Republican Party and embraced their policies, including reckless budget cuts and 30-year-old, discredited trickle-down ideas. Voters may still be confused about Mr. Romney’s true identity, but they know the Republican Party, and a Romney administration would reflect its agenda. Mr. Romney’s choice of Representative Paul Ryan as his running mate says volumes about that.
HEALTH CARE: An ideological assault from the right has started to undermine the vital health reform law passed in 2010. Those forces are eroding women’s access to health care, and their right to control their lives.
OBAMA: Mr. Obama has achieved the most sweeping health care reforms since the passage of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965. The reform law takes a big step toward universal health coverage, a final piece in the social contract.
ROMNEY: It was astonishing that Mr. Obama and the Democrats in Congress were able to get a bill past the Republican opposition. But the Republicans’ propagandistic distortions of the new law helped them wrest back control of the House, and they are determined now to repeal the law.
That would eliminate the many benefits the reform has already brought: allowing children under 26 to stay on their parents’ policies; lower drug costs for people on Medicare who are heavy users of prescription drugs; free immunizations, mammograms and contraceptives; a ban on lifetime limits on insurance payments. Insurance companies cannot deny coverage to children with pre-existing conditions. Starting in 2014, insurers must accept all applicants. Once fully in effect, the new law would start to control health care costs.
Mr. Romney has no plan for covering the uninsured beyond his callous assumption that they will use emergency rooms. He wants to use voucher programs to shift more Medicare costs to beneficiaries and block grants to shift more Medicaid costs to the states.
ECONOMY: The economy is slowly recovering from the 2008 meltdown, and the country could suffer another recession if the wrong policies take hold.
OBAMA: President Obama has shown a firm commitment to using government to help foster growth. He has formed sensible budget policies that are not dedicated to protecting the powerful, and has worked to save the social safety net to protect the powerless.
Mr. Obama prevented another Great Depression. The economy was cratering when he took office in January 2009. By that June it was growing, and it has been ever since (although at a rate that disappoints everyone), thanks in large part to interventions Mr. Obama championed, like the $840 billion stimulus bill. Republicans say it failed, but it created and preserved 2.5 million jobs and prevented unemployment from reaching 12 percent. Poverty would have been much worse without the billions spent on Medicaid, food stamps and jobless benefits.
Last year, Mr. Obama introduced a jobs plan that included spending on school renovations, repair projects for roads and bridges, aid to states, and more. It was stymied by Republicans. Contrary to Mr. Romney’s claims, Mr. Obama has done good things for small businesses — like pushing through more tax write-offs for new equipment and temporary tax cuts for hiring the unemployed.
REPUBLICAN CONGRESS: Mr. Obama has impressive achievements despite the implacable wall of refusal erected by Congressional Republicans so intent on stopping him that they risked pushing the nation into depression, held its credit rating hostage, and hobbled economic recovery.
OBAMA: We are confident he would challenge the Republicans in the “fiscal cliff” battle even if it meant calling their bluff, letting the Bush tax cuts expire and forcing them to confront the budget sequester they created.
ROMNEY: Electing Mr. Romney would eliminate any hope of deficit reduction that included increased revenues.
ECONOMIC STIMULOUS: In the poisonous atmosphere of this campaign, it may be easy to overlook Mr. Obama’s many important achievements, including carrying out the economic stimulus,
OBAMA: Saving the auto industry. Improving fuel efficiency standards.
DODD-FRANK: The Dodd-Frank financial regulation was an important milestone. It is still a work in progress, but it established the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, initiated reform of the derivatives market, and imposed higher capital requirements for banks.
If re-elected, Mr. Obama would be in position to shape the “grand bargain” that could finally combine stimulus like the jobs bill with long-term deficit reduction that includes letting the high-end Bush-era tax cuts expire. Stimulus should come first, and deficit reduction as the economy strengthens. Mr. Obama has not been as aggressive as we would have liked in addressing the housing crisis, but he has increased efforts in refinancing and loan modifications.
ROMNEY: Mr. Romney’s economic plan, as much as we know about it, is regressive, relying on big tax cuts and deregulation. That kind of plan was not the answer after the financial crisis, and it will not create broad prosperity.
Mr. Romney wants to repeal Dodd-Frank.
FOREIGN RELATIONS: The United States is embroiled in unstable regions that could easily explode into full-blown disaster.
OBAMA: Mr. Obama and his administration have been resolute in attacking Al Qaeda’s leadership, including the killing of Osama bin Laden.
He has ended the war in Iraq.
ROMNEY: Mr. Romney, however, has said he would have insisted on leaving thousands of American soldiers there. He has surrounded himself with Bush administration neocons who helped to engineer the Iraq war, and adopted their militaristic talk in a way that makes a Romney administration’s foreign policies a frightening prospect.
OBAMA: Mr. Obama negotiated a much tougher regime of multilateral economic sanctions on Iran.
ROMNEY: Mr. Romney likes to say the president was ineffective on Iran, but at the final debate he agreed with Mr. Obama’s policies.
OBAMA: Mr. Obama deserves credit for his handling of the Arab Spring.
OBAMA: The killing goes on in Syria, but the administration is working to identify and support moderate insurgent forces there.
ROMNEY: At the last debate, Mr. Romney talked about funneling arms through Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which are funneling arms to jihadist groups.
OBAMA: Mr. Obama gathered international backing for airstrikes during the Libyan uprising, and kept American military forces in a background role. It was smart policy.
In the broadest terms, he introduced a measure of military restraint after the Bush years and helped repair America’s badly damaged reputation in many countries from the low levels to which it had sunk by 2008.
SUPREME COURT: The future of the nation’s highest court hangs in the balance in this election — and along with it, reproductive freedom for American women and voting rights for all, to name just two issues. Whoever is president after the election will make at least one appointment to the court, and many more to federal appeals courts and district courts.
Mr. Obama, who appointed the impressive Justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, two very fine Supreme Court appointments, understands how severely damaging conservative activism has been in areas like campaign spending. He would appoint justices and judges who understand that landmarks of equality like the Voting Rights Act must be defended against the steady attack from the right.
ROMNEY: Mr. Romney’s campaign Web site says he will “nominate judges in the mold of Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Scalia, Thomas and Alito,” among the most conservative justices in the past 75 years. There is no doubt that he would appoint justices who would seek to overturn Roe v. Wade.
OBAMA: The extraordinary fact of Mr. Obama’s 2008 election did not usher in a new post-racial era. In fact, the steady undercurrent of racism in national politics is truly disturbing. Mr. Obama, however, has reversed Bush administration policies that chipped away at minorities’ voting rights and has fought laws, like the ones in Arizona, that seek to turn undocumented immigrants into a class of criminals.
RIGHT WING: Nearly 50 years after passage of the Civil Rights Act, all Americans’ rights are cheapened by the right wing’s determination to deny marriage benefits to a selected group of us. Astonishingly, even the very right to vote is being challenged.
DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL:
OBAMA: The military’s odious “don’t ask, don’t tell” rule was finally legislated out of existence, under the Obama administration’s leadership.
DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT: There are still big hurdles to equality to be brought down, including the Defense of Marriage Act, the outrageous federal law that undermines the rights of gay men and lesbians, even in states that recognize those rights.
OBAMA: Though it took Mr. Obama some time to do it, he overcame his hesitation about same-sex marriage and declared his support. That support has helped spur marriage-equality movements around the country. His Justice Department has also stopped defending the Defense of Marriage Act against constitutional challenges.
ROMNEY: Mr. Romney opposes same-sex marriage and supports the federal act, which not only denies federal benefits and recognition to same-sex couples but allows states to ignore marriages made in other states. His campaign declared that Mr. Romney would not object if states also banned adoption by same-sex couples and restricted their rights to hospital visitation and other privileges.
ROMNEY: Mr. Romney has been careful to avoid the efforts of some Republicans to criminalize abortion even in the case of women who had been raped, including by family members. He says he is not opposed to contraception, but he has promised to deny federal money to Planned Parenthood, on which millions of women depend for family planning.
For these and many other reasons, we enthusiastically endorse President Barack Obama for a second term, and express the hope that his victory will be accompanied by a new Congress willing to work for policies that Americans need.

Now such people are courted and flattered by conservative politicians and ideologues as “Real Americans” defending their country against big government and educated liberal elites. The hucksters of FOX News and the right wing radio wing-nuts orchestrate their loyal followers who are deaf to reason and listen to the voices bought by the powerful financial interests who will take away their rights. This cabal of evil knows that they can make their cool-ade drinking chorus believe almost anything. They know that for the ignorant and the bigoted, their lies sing a siren-like song. Global Warming is a hoax.
The president is forcing open homosexuality on the military.
Schools push a left-wing agenda.
Social Security is an entitlement, no different from welfare.
Obama hates white people.
The life on earth is 6,000 years old and so is the universe.
The safety net contributes to poverty.
The government is taking money from you and giving it to sex-crazed college women to pay for their birth control.
Coal is clean energy.
One could easily list many more such commonplace delusionary myths believed by Americans. Stupidity is sometimes the greatest of historical forces. What we have today is a rebellion of dull minds against the intellect. They love politicians who rail against teachers and resent the ones who show an ability to think seriously and independently. The ignoramuses can always be counted on to vote against their own self-interest; but they are not ignorant all on their own. Hundreds of millions are being spent to keep a cacophonous symphony of misinformation blaring out to the uninformed and perpetuate the aforementioned lies.

You can’t just close your eyes and make them not true.
Warnings that we may face civilization-threatening temperature change by the end of the century, once considered outlandish, are now coming out of mainstream research groups. In the past, Mr. Romney has strongly endorsed the notion that man-made climate change is a real concern. But, in 2011, he softened that to a statement that he thinks the world is getting hotter, but “I don’t know that” and “I don’t know if it’s mostly caused by humans.” According to Public Policy Polling, only 21 percent of Republican voters in Iowa believe in global warming (and only 35 percent believe in evolution). Within the G.O.P., willful ignorance has become a litmus test for candidates, a test that Mr. Romney is determined to pass at all costs.
An educated, well-informed population, the kind that a functioning democracy requires, would be difficult to lie to, and could not be led by the nose by the various vested interests running amok in this country. An educated, well informed population would vote for an intelligent well informed president, and only one of our candidates can sing that song.

It took a devastatingly horrible act of nature to give the doubters an opportunity to have an epiphany. Some, exemplified by a leading critic of the President, came to the conclusion that the man they had painted in the most negative way was actually a horse of a different color.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, the man who delivered the keynote address on August 28, 2012 at the Republican Convention in Tampa, Florida, said the following about President Obama in that speech:
“It’s time to end this era of absentee leadership in the Oval Office and send real leaders to the White House,”
“I believe in America and her history,” he continued, “There’s only one thing missing now: leadership.”
Governor Christie has said as bad and worse since; including this May 2012 statement about the President: "He is the most ill-prepared person to assume the presidency in my lifetime," Christie told some 600 Kentucky Republicans. “This is a guy who literally is walking around in a dark room trying to find the light switch of leadership."
Flash forward to October 30, 2012 when The President and the Governor had a chance to work together in the crisis environment caused by the brutally damaging storm that blew through the East. The punishing winds blew the ideological blinders off of the Governor’s eyes.
The New Jersey Governor, who has been a leading presidential critic, got to personally experience President Obama’s leadership. This frank and honest man bravely threw political expedience out the window and spoke from his heart about the President’s leadership under fire. Rather than holding to the Republican Party line, Christy surprisingly lauded the President for his leadership in the handling of Hurricane Sandy.
“The president has been outstanding in this and so have the folks at FEMA,” Christie said on NBC’s “Today” show.
Christie, whose state is among the hardest hit by the storm, made appearances on several morning talk shows on Tuesday and applauded Obama at each stop.
On MSNBC’s Morning Joe Show, Christie said “The president has been all over this, and he deserves great credit. He gave me his number at the White House and told me to call him if I needed anything and he absolutely means it, and it’s been very good working with the president and his administration.” In a later follow up Christie told of a midnight call with the President and a quick 2:00 AM follow up call from FEMA.
On CNN’s “Starting Point with Soledad O’Brien,” Christie added that Obama “has been incredibly supportive and helpful to our state, and not once did he bring up the election.”
It has been told that everyone who has personal experience with this President comes away understanding his leadership abilities and his solid character. Governor Christie joins a long line of converts who agree that President Obama is a man who means what he says and he says what he means, and then he acts to implement his words.
There are still folks out there who can’t even give the President credit for the things that he undeniably accomplished such as saving the auto industry and ending Bin Laden’s life. These people would be well advised to take the lead from Chris Christie who has the integrity to give the man credit for doing a good job. This speaks as well for the Governor as it does of the President.
We would be remiss leaving our SNAP-CAP here. There is another leadership lesson learned in the wake of this tragic event. This time the spotlight of truth shines on the Republican candidate for president, Mitt Romney.
During a CNN debate at the height of the GOP primary, Mitt Romney was asked whether FEMA should be dismantled so that states can individually take over responsibility for disaster response.
"Absolutely," he said. "Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction. And if you can go even further, and send it back to the private sector, that's even better. Instead of thinking, in the federal budget, what we should cut, we should ask the opposite question, what should we keep?"
"Including disaster relief, though?" debate moderator John King asked Romney.
"We cannot -- we cannot afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids," Romney replied. "It is simply immoral, in my view, for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids, knowing full well that we'll all be dead and gone before it's paid off. It makes no sense at all."
Privatize disaster response? This is one more indications of how completely out of touch Romney is with reality. Imagine how damaging it will be for this country to put a man who is so accident prone in making one wrong decision after another and then changing his position with the advantage of hindsight.
Just imagine if he was the President and had implemented his plan to privatize disaster relief. How irresponsible will it be to put this inept man and his ham-fisted team of advisors in the oval office? Doing so will put our beloved country at risk in this and so many other ways. Replacing our very capable President with an incompetent power-craving hack would be a colossal mistake of bigger magnitude and consequence than the Perfect Storm that just caused us so much damage.
Get out and vote – and then get out the vote!

I realized there was something wrong when the head of the South Florida Tea Party, speaking on a televised debate, called President Obama a Communist/ Fascist in the same breath. It was quite a shock that such a high placed official seemingly didn’t know what a Fascist actually is (they are the good folks who brought us WWII); and that a Fascist is the economic opposite of a Communist.
Worse, the man had no idea that the Republican policies he was espousing were, for the most part, the same ones Germany used to define Fascism. Our fathers and grandfathers fought and died in WWII to save this country from fascism, and now the Republican Party is practically the very definition of the word.
Halloween is the scariest day of the year. Here are some examples that will spook you from the thought that Mitt Romney could be taking over – so read this and then GO OUT AND VOTE, and bring a friend.
1. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the citizens in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
Republican policies gave us Waterboarding, the Bush Patriot Act, Abu Greb, and unlimited detention without trial.
2. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
Republican agenda includes providing the military with $2 trillion more than they are asking for and to thoughtlessly spend without regard to modern realities. This Pentagon bound money will be allocated by the defunding of fundamental domestic programs and services.
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The country is rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. are vilified and dehumanized.
Republican policy has brought back “Jim Crow” laws and intimidation to suppress the African-American vote. Republican policy regarding Hispanics is degrading and negative. Republican rhetoric has even descended to call the President of the United States a communist and do every low fabrication to make him the “Other”.
4. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution
Republican policy manifests in the need to hold women back by controlling their reproductive systems and limiting their ability for equality in the workplace. This explains the Republican bent to repeal Roe v. Wade and oppose laws such as Lilly Ledbetter, i.e. equal pay for equal work.
5. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
Fox News and Rush Limbaugh are typical of controlled media partnerships where only the party line is reported as real news. Fox News only exists because Republicans changed FCC regulations to allow foreign ownership in exchange for creating a right wing propaganda organ. At the same time, independent media is marginalized and Republican policy will be to eliminate NET-TV and NPR Radio if they are elected.
6. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
Republican’s obsessive harping on the dangers of Iran and Muslim terror is typical of Fascist fear mongering. In truth, fear and conspiracy theories are a centerpiece of the Right Wing’s policy.
7. Religion and Government are intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
The expressed Republican policy to “Return the United States to a Christian Nation” is a watchword of the Republican agenda. The Republican party panders to the ignorance of the Religious Right and the Tea Party. They perpetrate backward social policies and rationalize the destructive and greedy energy policies of their oil, coal and gas corporate supporters led by the Koch Brothers, son of John Birch Society cofounder.
8. Corporate Power is Nurtured and Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a Fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
The Republican policy of favoring corporations over citizens has a long historical record, but never more so than now! Republicans are disposed to funnel billions to huge corporations by providing tax advantages and subsidies. In turn, the recipients support the regime with massive campaign contributions to fund largely misleading advertising to help them gain and retain power.
Dick Cheney, in a secret cabal, let the power industry draw up our national energy policy. The Result created Enron, baby Enrons and deregulation that has led to massive oil spills and dangerous fracking that has destroyed water sources and millions of fertile acres of American farm land.
9. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.
Union busting and wage suppression has been the hallmark of every Republican platform in the modern era. This one is even bolder than ever before. Some states such as Ohio and Wisconsin have gone ahead with draconian laws against labor. These are only a precursor of what will happen under a Romney administration.
10. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other intellectuals to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.
Ending funding to the arts and eliminating affordable college loans and grants are the Republican policies for maintaining a low wage workforce for their factories. Hello banning books; bye bye Big Bird and NPR.
11. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
Communist witch hunts, Nixon’s failed War on Drugs, are only the tip of the Republican attack on individual freedoms. We can thank them for the largest prison population on earth and the obscenity of private prisons for profit that are now absorbing more high paying American factory jobs than China.
12. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
If you think the greatest theft on our national treasure was Dick Cheney and his buds at Halliburton, wait till you see what happens when Romney opens the vaults to the Koch brothers, Sheldon Addleson, and people like his drug advisor Mel Sembler.
Can you doubt that our energy policy will be written by the Kochs or maybe you think they are spending hundreds of millions on this election for the hell of it? Romney and the Koch puppets in Congress will deregulate and then it’s acid rain for your kids and golden rain for Koch’s coal and oil profits.
More and more manufactures will contract for prison labor and Mel Sembler will fill the private prisons with docile pot smokers and non-violent drug offenders. Sembler collects millions from Republican states to support his front organizations, Dare and Partnership for a Drug Free America. Mean Mel became infamous when it was revealed that his phony rehab centers, Straight Inc. collected government funds for kidnapping and torturing children, mostly young girls. Instead of prosecution, Bush I rewarded him with an Ambassadorship. Today he stands at the side of Mitt Romney.
The whole crew of corporate thieves that got rich from our misery during the last Republican administration is already in place to do it again. Add Romney’s Bain associates and the Mormon business network to the equation, and you have an Old Boy shadow government beyond your wildest fears. This makes the fifty billion or so stolen by Halliburton look like chump change.

On October 23, 2012 the BBC posted the results of a global BBC World Service poll surveying 22,000 people in 21 countries. To no one’s surprise, except Right Wing diehards who live in their Alternative Reality, the poll found a wide preference for President Obama against Governor Romney in the 2012 presidential race.
Although the President’s popularity is obvious to anyone paying attention, many people are not paying attention and we can’t assume that even intelligent voters have enough information on this issue. There are just too many rumor-mails going around that mislead their readers by saying that President Obama is widely hated overseas.
As you are about to see, this is just another 180 U-turn on the truth. The entire Right Wing, from Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan on the top of the heap; to Rush Limbaugh and John Sununu on the bottom of the pile, will make up their “facts” as they go – and then double down on each others’ lies the next morning.
The result of the impartial BBC’s poll give lie to the lies being perpetrated – and stunningly so! Obama “scored 50% favorable among all respondents to Mitt Romney’s 9%. Almost a quarter, 24 percent, gave some variation of an answer that it made no difference. Only 16 percent said they didn’t know, a reminder of how closely the world follows American politics.”
One caveat is that, although the poll was worldwide and sampled most continents, there were some key countries that would have been interesting to have results from. These include Russia, Israel, and at least one Arab country.
Here is the BBC chart so you can see for yourself. With the exception of Pakistan, which is angry over U.S drone strikes on their land, and who don’t much like either candidate, every one of the other countries favored Obama over Romney, and all favored him heavily.
You can peruse the chart and see the results country by country. It is eminently clear that the world loves and respects the President of the United States, while they either don’t know who Mitt Romney is (but then who does know – he is not so sure himself) or they don’t care for him.
The BBC report notes that, “The countries where Obama leads together make up about 56.4 percent of the global population. Non-Americans sometimes joke — or gripe — that they should get a vote in U.S. presidential elections, given the winner’s potential impact on their country and sometimes individual lives. If they did, it seems likely, based on this poll, that Obama would win.”
But as important as world public opinion is to indicate how the president has pulled America’s standing up in the eyes of the world from the Bush years, the real measure of America’s resuscitated standing is the cooperation that the President has gotten from so many of the world’s governments.
The most outstanding achievement in this regard is the incredible coalition that the President has crafted against the Iranian government. Any reasonable observer would have said there was no chance that the entire civilized world would come together to put incredible pressure on the ayatollahs to end their nuclear program.
This effort may or may not work in the end. If it does work it will save a disastrous war. But whatever the outcome the President’s ability to pull together this unprecedented disparate amalgamation, unbelievably including Russia and China, is a tribute to his vision, leadership, resolve, and his ability to produce results.
Listen to all the Republican propaganda and you would think that this President is in over his head. In truth, the entire lot of them could never have pulled off what our Commander In Chief has done.
Snap Fact #357 - GLOVES OFF: President Obama Understands the Constitution: While Republicans Attack the Separation of Church and State
One of the basic tenets of our democracy lies in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Thomas Jefferson used the phrase “separation of church and state” to express an understanding of the intent and function of the Establishment Clause and Free Excise Clause of the First Amendment.
Specifically, the First Amendment provides that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” and Article VI specifies that ‘no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.” The First Amendment and Article VI provide for a wholly secular government with a “wall of separation between church and state.” Unless one wishes to rewrite history, this is pretty clear, and the President understands it.
The significance of the separation of church and state lies in the equality it provides each citizen against discrimination for ones religious beliefs or non-beliefs. In the United States of America, members of minority religions, agnostics, and atheists are free to pursue their beliefs without prejudice. Unfortunately, groups such as the Religious Right with the help of the Republican Party have been trying to breach the wall of separation.
In the Republican Platform of 2012, there is a pledge to support the right of students to engage in prayer at public school events in public schools. Fifty years ago, the Supreme Court addressed the issue of officially sponsored prayer or religious recitations in public schools. In Engle v. Vitale (1962), the Court, by a vote of 6-1, determined it unconstitutional for state officials to compose an official school prayer and require its recitations in public schools, even when the prayer is non-denominational and students may excuse themselves from participation. The Court noted that it is a matter of history that this very practice of establishing governmentally composed prayers for religious services was one of the reasons which caused many of our early colonists to leave England and seek religious freedom in America. Yet, as plainspoken as the Court was in its decision, today’s Republican Party still seeks to erode the essence of separation of church and state.
One of the more egregious examples of attempting to breach the “wall of separation” concerns the battle on teaching evolution. After the publication of On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin in 1859, the idea that life as we know it had evolved was an active source of academic debate centered on the philosophical, social, and religious implications of evolution. Today, evolution is generally accepted by greater than 99.5% of scientists with relevant expertise.
With the development of the theory of evolution, public schools began to teach science that was considered by some to be at odds with the Bible. In reaction, several states prohibited the teaching of evolution. In Tennessee, this led to the conviction of John T. Scopes in 1925 for teaching evolution in his secondary school biology class. In 1927, the case was appealed to the Tennessee Supreme Court who overturned it on a technicality, but the Court held that the ban on teaching of evolution did not violate the Establishment Clause.
