About Us

In 1996, volunteers realized the need for a child advocacy center for abused children and their families for White, Gallatin, and Saline Counties in southern Illinois.  Advisory boards were formed in 1998 to develop protocols for agency responses to abuse cases.  In 1998, a Program Development Grant through the National Network of Child Advocacy Centers and space was leased near the lo cal courthouse facilities.  The Guardian Center, a 501c3 incorporated on 7-30-98, and is registered as a Charitable Organization.

In 1999, The Guardian Center, Inc. began interviewing and advocacy services for families experiencing sexual abuse.  These services were expanded in 2000 to include Edwards and Wabash Counties.  In 2003, services were again expanded to serve families experiencing severe physical abuse.  In 2006, the Center opened a Harrisburg satellite to serve Saline and Gallatin Co. children.  Starting in 2010 The Guardian Center offered services to children in Richland, Lawrence and Crawford counties through the satellite project, Healing Harbor.
