THE BUZZ.....

December 1, 2019

Dear Earth School Families,

I hope you all enjoyed a restful long weekend. Winter weather is starting to rear up and I wanted to be sure to share with you the DOE’s advisory regarding winter weather for tomorrow:

DOE schools will be open tomorrow Monday, December 2, 2019. However, due to anticipated inclement weather conditions, any after-school programs requiring yellow bus service will be cancelled tomorrow Monday, December 2, 2019. All other after-school programs not requiring busing can continue as planned.  [Due to anticipated slippery roads] parents are encouraged to pick up their children at regular dismissal or as early as possible from after-school.

Since cold weather and snow are expected to make roads slippery, we urge everyone to exercise caution when traveling tomorrow. Please use mass transit wherever possible and leave extra time to get to and from school as roads may be slower than usual.

Parent Corps resumes tomorrow (8:30-10:00, Room 106)! All are welcome to come and talk with other parents about parenting challenges and strategies, and enjoy coffee and some breakfast goodies. Hosted by our Guidance Counselor, Shirley.

Children’s & Adult coats wanted! Bring your outgrown coats to Amy & Maya's classroom (Rm 152). Coats & jackets need to be clean and in good condition (no broken zippers, holes or obvious stains). Unfortunately, we cannot accept other types of clothing. If you would like to shop/swap for a coat through December 19th, please come to Room 152 or speak with Jocelyn. We will be donating coats to the NYCares Coat Drive on December 20th.

Our Food Drive will continue through Wednesday, December 18, in the ES lobby! Highly needed items include canned goods like tuna, beans and vegetables; sealed packages of pasta, rice and other grains and cereal; and Tetra-packed milk.  Donations will first be utilized within our school community and then donated to the food bank on Ave B. Any questions, see Maya and Amy in Rm 152.

Did you know New York State has underfunded New York City public schools for over a decade? In anticipation of the State’s next budget session, the Alliance for Quality Education is organizing a rally and campaign launch this Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, 9 AM, at 250 Broadway. Click here to find out more about the event.

Have a wonderful week!

Claudia
