Dear Earth School Families,

Winter Solstice is a symbol of renewal and light. As the New Year draws near, the staff and I invite you to join us in putting renewed energy into caring for the amazing planet Earth! What are some ways that each of us can live more sustainably and “go green”? Beginning in January, students will share Sustainability Tips and Pledges at Weekly Town Meeting. We will also designate a bulletin board space in the lobby for Sustainability Tips, News, and Recognitions. Teachers will be inspiring students through readings, projects, and discussions. Our next Mover & Shaker, Dr. John Francis, was chosen because of his deep commitment to protecting the environment and his unusual way of taking a stand. The John Francis Trivia Quiz will happen at our first Town Meeting in 2019 (hint, hint). And, please don’t forget our schoolwide ban of single-use plastic water bottles. Stay tuned for even more Sustainability initiatives coming to The Earth School!!

Another way that our community cares is through drives and swaps. We currently have three campaigns running. Maya’s class is holding coat and food collections and Ashley’s class is collecting powdered baby formula to send to Venezuela. Food collection boxes are in the lobby and outside of Ashley’s Room 103. Clean, lightly used coats and warm clothing are being collected in Maya’s Room 152. If you need something warm, please contact Jocelyn to arrange a time to pick something.

Warmly, Abbe
