Summary of the Department

History is a hugely successful and popular subject at The Cooper School.  We currently have seven GCSE History groups in Years 10 and 11, and have again proved a popular choice in Year 9 Options this year.  The department has also achieved excellent GCSE results.  In 2014, 82% of our GCSE History candidates achieved Grades A*- C with 48% achieving A*-A.  The AS & A2 results of 2014 were also pleasing with 79% achieving A*- C and achieving ALPS 3 on the national indicator. One of the strengths of the department is the collaborative approach to lesson planning and curriculum development. This, combined with a team who are responsive to innovation, hard working and good fun, makes for an extremely dynamic and exciting environment. The Department is also committed to enhancing learning through out of school visits.  For the past few years, we have taken A Level students to New York & Washington, GCSE students to Berlin, Krakow & London and Year 9 students to the First World War Battlefield sites in Ypres and the Somme. The History Department is richly resourced. We have two flexible learning spaces within the department and have a bank of Chromebooks to further enhance independent learning. Every teaching room has a digital projector, wireless internet access and high quality audio systems.
