Glory Farm - Year 5

Welcome to the Year Five space!

Our teachers in Year 5 are Mrs M Gibson and Mrs R Wilson we are lucky to also have Mrs J Webb and Mrs R Walford working as part of our hard working and friendly team.

Our Learning

Our trip next term will be to the STEAM musuem in Swindon. Letters have now been sent home, here is a copy of the letter
We would like the children to dress in role for our trip to the STEAM Museum. Here is the letter we sent home with suggested outfits.

Terms 5 and 6 - Summer Term 

Our topic for this term will be 'Your Country Needs You!' We will be learning World War II, including the causes, evacuation, rationing and the Blitz. Terms 3 and 4 - Spring Term 

Our topic for this term will be 'Traders and Raiders'. We will be learning about the Vikings, including the Norse Gods, where they came from, why they came, what they traded in and where they traded. Terms 1 and 2 - Autumn Term

Our topic for the first term will be 'Battle of the Invaders'. We have been learning about the Anglo-Saxons, including who they were, where they came from, what daily life was like for them. To support our learning, we went to Hill End in October to be part of an Anglo-Saxon experience day. We also baked Anglo-Saxon bread. Water Bottles – Please provide your child with a named water bottle daily.

Homework will be given out on Fridays and should be handed in on Wednesdays. 

Reading – It is your child’s responsibility in Year 5 to change their home reading book when they have finished reading it. They are given time at school to do this. We would like children to read at home for at least 20 minutes each day.

P.E – Both Year 5 classes are being PE taught by Ignite on a ThursdayThe children will also have a second lesson of P.E with their class teacher on a Wednesday, if they are not swimming. Over the two terms, the focus will be dance, including the Salsa and the Flamenco, and net and wall games. 

Please ensure that children have the correct PE kit consisting of shorts, a white t-shirt and a pair of trainers suitable for outdoors in school. Please ensure that this P.E kit is kept in school between Monday and Friday to ensure that the children have it available for any impromptu lessons.

Swimming will continue every Wednesday.
